Differences of 3rd GEN 13B and earlier 13B?

Hi I'm new to the forum. I don't own an rx7 but I'm hoping to get one by next year.

My question is as stated in the subject. What's the difference between the engines in the 3rd Gen RX7 (1993+) vs. the older ones?

Sorry if this has been covered before. I tried the search option but couldn't find the answers I was looking for.

Also, what would it take to fit a 20B in the 3rd Gen?
Would I need a new tranny?

Thanks.

well one of the main differences is the two turbo's in the third gen. Most likely the fuel system and tranny is better too.

I think the 3rd gen 13B has 6-port intakes, whereas the 2nd gens have 4-ports.

It takes a lot to get a 20B into a third gen. At least $10k for a talented DIY'er.

actually I think it is the other way around. The 2nd gens have 6 ports and the 3rd gens have 4. The third gens also have less compression.

and since when is the third gen tranny is better than a turboII tranny???

turboII trannys were way better for the time that they came out in than the 3rd gen trannies were... damn 2-3 shift grinding causes 5th gear grinding.. turbo II tranny are solid for 400 hp or less

Ok so the 2nd Gen RX7 have port intake and no turbo, while the 3rd Gen's had four port intake with twin turbo?

What I'm trying to figure out is will the 2nd gen engine bolt straight up into a 3rd gen rx7 or would I need to change the tranny too? And if the 2nd gen engine will hold up to turbo as well as the 3rd?

I'm thinking bout getting an FD without an engine or blown engine and getting another put in. Seeing how it's been easier for me to find an fc engine I wanna know if I could use that.

Thanks for the replies.

P.S. I guess at 10k the 20b is outta my league. But hey I can still dream...
