What are the differences between these two? Most pre-fab, aftermarket I/C's I've seen are air-to-air, but there's a guy in town with an FD who swears up and down by them and has gotten at least 2-3 other FD owners to have one built also. What's the difference between these two?

I was thinking about a Water to air intercooler, mainly to keep my performance numbers more constant. On Air to Air you have alot better efficiency when it's cold out, but on water to air you get more of a constant efficiency. Just my opinion. If you notice on a hot day your car runs slower. but it really runs on a winter day. I kind of prefer to have the same performance everyday

 

air to water is just that, it uses water to cool the fins, and not air. it is a lot more complicated as you need another radiator *heat exchanger* for the water. Sometimes people run coolant or alcohol etc. air-water is good if you DN"T have a good source for air such as mid engined cars. Other than that. air-air is the way to go. It's more efficient and a lot cheaper.

Water to air is better if you drag race and want to put an ice tank in the car. Other than that I would much prefer a air to air if for no other reasons than the complexity involved in the water to air, the added weight, and the added maintenence.
