diagnostic how to

i have a problem of misfire or strong hesitaion.

i would like to see if my ECU gives me a code. How do i check that? I bought the book from mazda but they say you need the diagnostic tester. I don't have that thing, is there any place to jump a wire to see the codes flashing?

how does it works?

thanks a lot

I stole this off of someone's website, if your on here take credit:

ECU Error Codes

To cause the ECU to flash the error codes on the MIL, short the TEN and GND terminals on your diagnosis connector, with the ignition off. Then turn your key to the "on" position and count the flashes.

To clear the error codes, disconnect the negative battery cable for at least 20 seconds, and depress the brake pedal. Re-connect the battery cable.

In the "pattern" column, the "L" stands for a long flash, and the "S" stands for a short flash.

Huh? Are you talking about resetting the ECU? If you read it again you'll see he gives you the instructions for clearing the codes which is done by resetting the ECU, it's the break pedal you step on, not the gas. Is that what you meant?
