Diagnostic Help

Ok. The problem started with difficult warm starts. Strangely, if you just keep the key turned, it will never start, you have to crank for 1-2 sec, then stop, then do it again. Only when the engine is hot though, cold, it fires right up. When I finally did get it started ecah time, the exhaust smelled really rich. Now I am also having problems with breakup under boost. Runs and idles pretty good, but under boost breaks up pretty badly. I have replaced the Plugs, and it didn't help. I am guessing leaky secondaries, but I want some expert opinions, before I buy new injectiors. I run a PFC, tuned by Steve Kan, and basic mods.

You might check this for your hot start problem:

Thanks Makjik, sounds interesting, but I think my 2 issues are related. I was thinking that a leaky injector was causing the hard starts, and over time, it has just gotten worse, so now as I boost, I am getting too much fuel from the secondaries causing it to run too rich.

However, you mentioned you were only having a problem with hot starts. If your injector is leaking and causing starting problems, it should also have a flooding problem when cold too.

Not saying you don't have a leaky injector, but that it would also effect cold starting as well.

coils tend to fail hot and when put under stress like boost. 10kv may spark at idle but it wont cut it under boost. how is the compression? do the test on the engine when it is warm

Another symptom I left off. When it's cold and it fires right up, as I drive off it sputters and backfires and has no power for about 1/8 mile then clears right up and runs fine. That was another thing that lead me to beleive injectors, like it had to burn off the excess fuel that was in the chamber.

I'm with mad_7tist, I'd suggest checking your ignition system first (harness & coils).

I suspect that you do not have an injector problem. As I recall, your car doesn't have many miles on it. Have you been running any injector cleaner to keep them clean? Once a year, I run a can of BG 44K thru the system. I don't think this will solve your problem, but it might be worth a try.
