fresh rebuild. with mods. 3k miles in and the car wont idle.. its a pain to start almost like its seveeeeeerly flooded. compression checks out. throwin me for a curve. then one day it dies violently, some nasty metallic sounds and umm ya still having nightmares of the sound. so a while later i finally get the engine out after checking the compression once more i figured it was a apex seal, probably took out the turbos as well cause i had no compression on 2 faces. pullin apart i was waiting to see absolute carnage inside. wait... the housings are fine... rotors fine. apexs fine one stuck with carbon which would cause the no compression. but o damn am i having a hard time gettin the bearings off the e-shaft. lol. in the end it turns out the oilpump cog keyway broke. complete oil devistation.
and on a lighter note... here is pics! lol.

The same thing happened to me about 2yrs ago with 2500 miles on a rebuild. My front rotor was stuck on the e-shaft and it spun the bearing. I ended up getting another front rotor, e-shaft, both stationary gears, side seals, oil pan, oil pump, oil regulator, thrust bearingsand I also flushed out my oil coolers and replaced my lines with s.s. lines. It sucked!!!

the odd thing was oilpressure never was obvious it was pumping oil. hard load and the oilpump gear would spin but otherwise im pretty sure it was pumping some oil. the car was quick. i was able to boost up the twins way beyond what i should have and the motor was runnin fine 99% of the time. just started with warm start issues which caused me to think compression. and got worse from there. and the dirt umm ya. i live on a dirt driveway and the car has been sittin for a couple months.
lucky enough both rotors didnt spin the bearings within the rotors. still tab'd in. stationarys are screwed though and well you can see for yourself the front thrust bearings and plates lol. so ya im in the market for and eshaft, all new bearings, rotors, stationarys. trust bearings, thrust bearing plates, oil pump. i think thats it.

This is why I normally don't remove the oil pump gear when doing a rebuild. I unbolt the 4 bolts that old the pump to the front iron. The key is a pain in the butt to line up properly. It is very easy to knock it back out of its groove and behind the pump and not notice. If the key or groove in the pump shaft is nicked, the key will not slide in and this can happen. The only time deal with it is when installing a new oil pump and then I use a new key.
i had it on a rebuild I did. The keyway for the oil pump sprocket got jammed between the axle and underneath the sprocket.
Weir thing was that, when I turned it, it worked fine, no strange noises, but after completing the rebuild I turned the exc shaft (just to check compression) and I heart a small 'pling' noise. Clearly a metal piece hitting the oil pan.
Took it of and found the keyway in the oil pan...
Too bad it held out so long otherwise you could have taken it back to the builder

The pressure from the nut will hold the gear on the pump shaft and appear as if it is turning properly, but it will slip at high rpm and lead to oil starvation. Make sure you flush EVERYTHING. Oil coolers, lines, turbos, ect.
