hey im trying to figure out what size tap to use to use with the given sensor. Do I have to go buy some adapter? or can I just tap in and get it in? what size should I use?

Welps..I can't help you on the tap...but here's Defi's install page for all of their gauges.

see I have all of those, and ive installed a boost gauge, done the vacuum line job, lowering springs, Blitz Sbc-ID boost controller and some other crap and I cant figure out why they want u to connect a water temp gauge to the ignition wire and the battery... can someone explain this to me please?

sure i can. these gauges hold memory. just like a stereo. battery is constant to hold memory and the ignition is to turn it on when the car turns on. it should all run back to the link system, granted this is the link.

then im sure its used as a memory. since it doesnt have a main memory to go back to it has to store its own memory. my defi holds my memory. such as, if i set the light to come on at 185deg F. you know what i mean? good luck man. ill see if i can eye ball what i used for my tap. i used another piece just so i didnt screw mine up. ill take a pic if i can get my buddies digi camera.

I don't have this type of Defi, but I would imagine that it's so the gauge doesn't show the temperature when the car is off. If it were a mechanical gauge it would just show temp all of the time, but since its electrical it's giving you the choice. Not too sure on this, but if you didn't mind you could probably hook the ignition wire and the battery wire up to 12 volt power, but your gauge would be on all of the time and may provide enough current draw to drain your battery.
To be safe I would follow the Defi instructions (disclaimer )

Get a voltage tester. There are a couple female blade taps in the fuse box by the drivers left foot. One of them is full time battery voltage, the other is battery voltage with the key on. Use your tester and ignition switch (on/off) to figure out which one. Make the necessary connections there and you're in business.

You do not have to hook the gauge up to the "Ignition", just an ignition switched power source. The place I mentioned above are what you're looking for.

okay maybe I dont, I pulled otu fuses, tested them with volt meters with key on key off, and I never got any readings... im confused.

As far as the sensor it will fit in the hole on top of the filler neck or on the side if you have the airpump removed.
The power should be run to the fuse box by the clutch pedal. Just pull a fuse put in the wire and push the fuse back in. If I remember correctly it doesnt need to be a constant.

Never put wire ends over a fuse and puch it back in. It puts more stress on that fuse and it can force the contacts further back which will result in a bad connection if you take the wire out. Use a piggyback fuse tap. They are available just about anywhere.
