Decision pertaining to 93r1

A buddy has a black 93r1 w/108,000 original miles. The engine has low compression and is in need of replacement. The car is stock except for an intake, catback, springs/shocks, and ss brake lines.
Ok, here's the deal.......He wishes to sell the car but is uncertain whether he should replace the engine, etc. before hand or sell it as is. I know if he replaces the engine he should do the clutch, possbily turbos, replace vacuum lines with silicone and any solenoids that break in the process, fix one or more possible leaky injectors, pulsation dampener, get rid of the crusty precat, etc.
Would replacing these things increase the cars value enough to make it worth while? Should he just make a potential buyer aware it will need a new engine and sell it as so?
The exterior and interior are in fairly good shape except for fading paint on the rear hatch. Can anyone give a ballpark selling price for with/without engine, etc. replacement?

IMO, unless he still owes a lot of money on the car he may as well attempt to sell it with the blown engine. If he is going to pay money to put an engine in the car, he may as well keep it. *IF* he can get some local help for RR, he can get a reman for around $2000.

Yes, if he is going to go that route, while installing a new engine you may as well replace all the vacuum lines, have the injectors cleaned and flow balanced (about $25 per injector), replace the FPD, get the downpipe and replace the O2 sensor (about $40 for the O2 sensor). If he has the money, having the turbos rebuilt would be a good idea while everything is out.

If he wants to sell it as is, I would imagine that he could get around $8000 or so for it.

Try going to Kelly Blue Book.com <www.kkb.com> and putting in all your information on the car. It'll ask you for your zip code and the cars configuration, mileage and so on... And spit out a suggested Fair Market Value selling price... I'd start with that information first... Good luck

Remember, people are not going to pay for labor money put into the car.
I think he should sell it with a blown engine. It's too much time, work and money to put into a car you are going to sell.

I am in the same boat - IF (and thats a BIG IF) decide to sell I will NOT do the rebuild (to fix Busted ApexSeal) and just try to get 8-9k for it. You will NEVER recover the LABOR cost if you do of the R&R. You either take a loss on paying someone else to do it or you do the work yoursel for the equivlant of $0.00/hr !
