Dead tach
I have a 99 JDM FD. The tach has not been working since I got the car, which is a couple of weeks ago. It mostly stays at 0 but slightly moves a bit now and then, the movement is very minute, almost like the needle is trying to move up but its stuck.
I have gone through every other thread I could find regarding this problem and even stripped down the gauge cluster to see if I could find any burnt connections or diodes, but everything looks like its new. Im sharing pictures below so you guys can have a look and see if you can spot anything. And I also tried running a direct wire from the tach to ground it, that didn't work either. Every thing else works perfectly.

Yea thats the guide I used to dismantle the cluster. Just want to know if there are any visual signs that suggest soldering or replacement of parts are needed. I guess I will have to show the circuit board to a proper electrician so he can check where the problem is.

my understanding is that over time the soldering points crack and corrode not just on top but underneath on the pin side and loose continuity. By resoldering them you repair that continuity loss. I'm about to rebuild another one I picked up as it pretty easy to do.

it's a stock ecu. Also my car is an auto. should the needle be able to move freely if I were to push it with my finger? I'm guessing there is a motor of sorts inside the white plastic part, which could be jammed?

So I had all of the points resoldered and the rpm works now. Only issue is I think I screwed up the position of the needle, so it idles at 2000rpm now. Im going to try and reposition it later. Its such a pain in the *** removing everything.
