Dashboard project.

So while I was deciding between a Rx8 and a Rx7 I finally came to the final decision I was going to go with the FD because there is no sexier bod out there than a FD, I still missed one thing I really liked about the Rx8, and that was the top sexy interior.

Curiosity struck-ed me and was wondering if this was possible to do. To replace the 93 FD dash with an Rx8 dash:

If anyone has done it or give a rough estimate how much would this cost to do since it has to do with changing the wire harness, electric parts n moving the AC stuff around.

Was thinking of taking this project to JR Electronics here in Miami since they have done great mods and have good history with them on previous projects.

Also since if I decide to do this mod might as well get the Rx8 seats:

also one thread about removing the dashboard:

yes it will work b/c they are EXACTLY the same. In fact, I heard the only thing different between the two was the body on the vehicles. It's kinda shocking since they're about 10 years apart in age.

In all seriousness, this project will never materialize or finalize. BUT perhaps, the question is best answered with the following statement: "it's a freakin' dash, man".

I prefer the FD dash by far personally. Most of them are in poor shape though.

I expect it would be possible if you wanted to fab up parts to get it to fit, then cover the entire dash to make it look uniform. Then you have the whole issue of either fitting the FD controls into it, or making the rx-8 controls work....that would be a PITA imo.

Its all possible, providing you have the skills

Go for it.

Rx-8 gauges waste too much space for having to few gauges IMO. Stock dash allows fuel/oil/and water gauges to be replaced with pretty much any 52mm single gauge with a little work. I've seen people also replace the tach and speedo with aftermarket units too.

Yeah I agree. The 8s dash is sexy looking but does waste a lot of space. Whole lot of empty in the two side gauges for the 8.

If you prefer the 8s though I say go with it. I mean it is your car after all lol. Keep us posted on it though.

I'll give you my classic answer "anything is possible if you spend enough money". Perhaps someone like RX Sam could do it.

I've tried to install RX8 seats into my COSMO with BIG FAIL! But it worked well for the RX3 I had.

I spend 4 hours taking the factory rivets and brackets off of the bottom of 8 seats and at the end, I said, for get this!!

Anything is possible but it all takes time and or money.

Does those AC controls fit into a FD. Some pcitures I have seen A/C ***** similar to a RX8 in a FD? Can it be done if so that would be a nice modern touch.

I believe the RX8 uses the CAN bus. You'd have a lot of fun (not) trying to interface the RX* CAN instrumentation & switches to your FD harness.

also, the Rx-8 seats look like crap in the FD - they're way to bulky. the stock seats or the recaro seats are the only way to go.

The RX-7 seats are lighter and very supportive for factory seats.
