Talking My new engine!!!

Well, boys and girls, its been a long time coming.

After 186,074 drama-filled, perplexing, fun, remarkably reliable and overall satifying miles my old motor is coming out after an unremarkable death.

Here's some pics of the new donor heart. Courtesy of DJseven of Rotary Rebuild store:

Yeah, bad coolant seals....

Not orange. Red. I think the camera flash just brightened it up some.

Yeah, I only heard good things so I had to give him a go.

Ah, it's so pretty.

I've got a new motor also. At 7 psi, I've somehow got more power than 12 on the old one. (..getting it tuned on Saturday in San Jose by Steve Kan...waa, that was a lot of S's) I changed the oil after 1000 miles, and it was pretty dirty, which was expected. I wish I went with a Stage II clutch though, but the increased clutch sensitivity isn't for everyone. Did you get larger injectors btw?

Thanks for sharing.

Im gonna go with 1200 or 1300 secondaries. I'm going to keep it Cali legal as best as I can.
I definitely want a streetable clutch to go with the lightweight flywheel.

Now its time to put in my Bnr stage 3 order.

Once I get all the misc engine parts (hoses, gaskets, etc.) I'll begin a right and proper build thread

186k on a truly original (non-rebuilt, unmolested) FD engine has to be a record, or close to it

Yea tell me about it. I'm really impressed that the 3 piece apex seals lasted that long. Mine had 108k till I over boosted it and blew it. I can't wait to see those pics. My one good housing didn't even have the typical flaking on the edges.

I was going to say 186k miles on a stock Mazda factory-fresh keg had to be a record, especially considering a majority of it's life was spent automatic...

Congrats man on the new motor! Mine has 63K on a rebuild, I just put water/meth on it so I'm hoping to extend it's life some.

So your motor finally gave huh, not sure is you still remember me but we chatted for a bit when I still lived in the bay area, I was the one that told you about the Kirspy Kreme meet on you way to school.

Goodluck with your new motor, hopefully it will last as long as the old one.

thanks for all the +1's guys.

Yeah, I remember you Kai, your car has changed a bit since '04... I still think you should put a group buy in for Cali FD's that need out of state reg to be smog exempt- you'd make some scrilla!!

Everything else on the car has broke at some point: small fpd fire, omp, pillowballs, int plastic, AT leakage, etc...

All I have left to replace on this car now is: turbos, paint job, wheels and seats.

I'm want to do a build thread AFTER I have everything. That way the pics and progress will be dense and not stretch over a year like some.
