Dash Vent Center Cap

I have tried installing two of these. Both new ordered from Atkins and both installed on relatively warm days. Both times the legs on the bottom have snapped before the cap has went into the dash. Are there any tricks to installing these? I am getting one more, but getting tired of spending repeatedly for the same thing. Thinking of trying a heat gun on the legs for just a bit before installing to see if they will soften up enough to snap in place. Thanks for any help.

Are you sure there isn't something else in there that is keeping it from snapping in, like part of an old one?

I've installed a few and it was no big deal, just pop it in. I do think it only goes in one way - like the tabs on the bottom only fit in one way. If you rotate it 180 it won't fit.
