Thumbs up Dash gauge accendent.... Or was it?

I was working on diagnosing a problem with my tach so I had my gauge pod out of my car. I fixed the tach problem and wanted to clean up the gauges. I thought I would use some mother’s mag and alum. polish on the chrome surrounds/bezel around the gauge face. Didn't work, lol, the chemical turned black like it should, then never turned back to shiny! I ended up with a spot of gloss black chrome.... That’s what it looks like to me at least. Well, there was no way to fix the black and I thought it looked kind of original so I did them all! Here’s what it looks like.

Anyways whats your opinion?

P.S. I think I realized that it was just a chrome painted plastic piece.... Thats what I'm assuming right now at least....

You can also buy spray chrome in a can, sand down the rings and spray it on.

don't they sell those small bottles of chrome paint for models? The Testor paints? Trying to spray that might be a nightmare.

You would think that a car that was what around $40,000 new would come with real chrome Oh well, I'll keep it black, with it all together gives the car a more VIP look = )

I bet ya they found that the chrome rings added too much weight (you're talkin about engineers who drilled out the pedal assembly to save a few OUNCES

lol you have me there. I wonder what the weight savings was for plastic painted chrome instead of chrome. Must be a couple pounds at least!!!

Not to mention how much it would have screwed up the weight distribution.

But i guess they have to cut back somewhere....
