Can anyone tell me how i can replace my wiper switch. I have no way of controlling my wipers. The way i turn it on or off is putting the fuse in or out. .

You have to remove the steering wheel to replace the controls. Let me know if you need one in like new condition. It's for a base or R-1 model (no rear wiper control) I bought it for mine but realized it wouldn't work for my touring model. $125 +shipping and paypal. Just so youknow there a little pricey from the dealer.

I've replaced mine and it's actually not bad. Remove the steering wheel, unplug a few harnesses and remove some screws. Once the steering wheel is off it's fairly obvious what needs to be done.

Is the steering wheel easy to remove? I have to reverse some wires on my headlight switch (highbeams and lowbeams got reversed when the previous owne had a break in and got a new set of switches).

I know i could search, but if there is a link, or a faq, please post, or at least let us know what to search for -- ie. "how to remove a steering wheel safely" -- I'm afraid of airbags.

make sure u disconnect your battery before you remove it and the airbag won't pop.

0. disconnect the negative terminal on the battery
1. make sure your steering wheel is straight
2. remove three (10mm?) bolts on the back of the steering wheel (left, right, and under)
3. disconect your airbag and cruise control wires
4. remove the air bag
5. remove the single big bolt in the middle (17mm??) holding the steering wheel down
6. pull and yank on the steering wheel as hard as you can, and it'll come off. If you've never removed it before, it'll be held down really tight by the steering wheel locking mechanism behind it.

Can you post some pics of it. Im interested in it. Mine is a touring model also but i have no more rear wipers, will it still fit or connect properly.

Also, be careful with the airbag. Disconnecting the negative battery cable will not ensure that the airbag will not diploy. I'm not sure it apply's to rx7's but some company's need the airbag connectors disconnected. Better safe than sorry

Static electricity can deploy an airbag, theoretically, but if there's no backup battery or anyrhing else holding a charge (Car Amp Capacitor) then how is it supposed to deploy ??

And you can't disconnect it before you remove the airbag as the plug is below the bag... best thing is to stick you head in the footwell, and start removing the bolts from there, if it does deploy you head won't be anywhere near it...

Hah, I broke my whole wiper switch arm off at one of my last HDPE's. Got a little tail happy at around 80mph exiting a corner, accidentally "punched" the damn thing in all the chaos.

But, when I went to replace it, it was very easy and self explainitory. They only thing you might want to have on hand is a steering wheel puller. You can rent these at most auto parts stores. I couldnt get my wheel off without it. Just some food for thought. Good luck.

a little tip for removing the steering wheel....

if you do not have a large enough socket you can use the lug wrench to remove the bolt that holds the wheel on...

Question controls?

When i replace the controls for the wipers, I have to replace the whole thing or is the switch or controls on the pic it's own part. I don't want to take everything apart just yet till I have the part that i need.

I cant remember exactly, but I think you have to replace the whole assembly. Which contains both the blinker switch arm, and the wiper switch arm. There is a plastic cog that both are connected to on either side, and that cog is bolted to the steering shaft. I am guessing you probably broke some of the plastic cog (I did this), so you will have to replace the whole thing if this is so. Good luck.
