Wiper Motor Gearing

The wiper motor and linkages on the FB are a PIA and not the best design IMHO. I have replaced everything I can and am still having problems. My motor works and runs, the linkages have been cleaned/greased but it seems like there is an issue with the gearing inside the motor housing. Is this at all serviceable, or do I need to shell out the $90 for a rebuilt unit?

What I have found with the wiper motor is that it may appear to work and move the wipers while the rack is outside the car, but once it's under load the motor just doesn't have enough torque to work properly. You might be able to get a starter/alternator shop to rebuild yours cheaper if you can find one. I'm lucky I have a shop close to where I work.

I have opened and regreased the gearbox before - it helped a bit, but even when new these wiper units did not run nearly as fast as modern ones do.

Opeing the motor case in also possible. Reassembling it takes some finesse, though. Skill level 3-4.
