Damn.....aftermarket radiators have NO provision for automatic trannies?
Wow.....I guess I hadn't really got that deep into it, but after reading the latest round of 'radiator threads'
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hreadid=276348
and especially after following the link provided by TainoIndian, it appears that there are NO aftermarket radiators that have versions that support automatic transmissions! That SUCKS. I realize it is not that big of a deal to add a separate transmission cooler to the car, but damn! This REALLY makes me rethink changing radiators. I just HATE having some damned ghetto-rigged non-stock piece of equipment on my car.

If your car is modded enough to need a larger radiator, then it's modded enough for the tranny to need it's own oil cooler. That's just my thinking
Besides, our radiators were never hooked up to the auto tranny to begin with since they got their own oil cooler.
Besides again you could always remove the end tank, add the bungs and that innner tube, weld it back on, and now you got the way to connect the tranny to it.

What are you talking about Bajaman? The transmission cooler occupies the space where the second oil cooler goes on an R1. This isn't a chrysler so don't expect it to be designed like one.

Perhaps I am on drugs and need to put down the pipe....but I thought SURE I read in the disassembly instructions of the factory service manual "remove transmission cooling lines from radiator"....
Perhaps it just means the auxilliary transmission cooler then.....hmmmm.
Panic over nothing maybe.....dammit I wish I had my manual here....this is going to eat at me!

Place your ad here...
Edit: After looking at FSM page E-9, it looks like a couple of A/T oil cooler hoses DO connect to the radiator.... weird. Never knew that.

Blow up or win
Umm, this one does - and how do I know? 'cause I have one on my car and it works great. For $175.00 it is unbeatable. No bling though..it's painted black. It is ALL metal.

Ex fd *****
The AUTO uses BOTH an oil/water heat exchanger in the bottom tank of the rad and an oil/air unit under the pass headlight - AWR makes a High perf all alum rad w/ the proper oil/water heat exchanger in place - Fluidyne recomends adding one of their multipass oil coolers when puting their Rad on an FD - It should be placed so that cooling air is drawn/blown through it by the fans. I suggest upgrading the stock Oil/Air cooler to a 19 row Mocal/Earl's/Setrab w/ a Fan if using a Fluidyne or Koyo, or just get the AWR one.
fwiw I believe AWR also builds the MAZDACOMP Radiator.

Yeah, on C-18 and C-19 it shows the hoses going into the radiator....whew! Thought I was going to have to stop drinking or something there for a minute....lol!
Max, Ron and Roar....thanks for the info. Looks like I DO have some options.

ok.so does this mean that I cant change my radiator to a koyo because the transmission cooler is hooked up to the damn radiator?
What would I have to do to be able to swap to a koyo?

omg.dammit.Yet another reason this automatic sucks ***.I cant do anything to this car without running into some kind of problem that the 5 speed car doesnt seem to have.I was considering keeping the car a auto for ease of use but now it seems that more and more things are adding up to the fact that I need to do the swap.I cant run an apex power fc,I cant just upgrade the radiator to a koyo like I had planned.I cant do **** to this car without running into some kind of obstacle.Im seriously considering selling it.

Yeah, I hear ya, speed demon. I thought about that too, and would certainly DO it vs. doing a tranny swap. In my opinion it is better in the long run to just sell the auto car and buy a 5 speed car.
But my car is in such good shape, the interior is perfect, exterior is damned good, and I looked at several other FDs that were just TRASHED that it makes me realize finding cars in as good of condition as mine is is hard to do.
I really don't mind the automatic, as autos go it is pretty good, actually. It does suck on the mod limitations though. When I do my rebuild I have GOT to incorporate some sort of boost control, so I don't EVER go 'boom' again.

im in the same situation.the car is in great condition.Minus the front bumper which thanx to the gravel here in colorado is chipped all up.Unfortunately ive already replaced many oem parts with new ones and have some money invested into the car which is making me want to do a swap versus selling it off.
