Cutting Pettit smic pipe?

Can I cut the small portion of the piping that is attached to the pettit smic intercooler? I am not sure of the material and little afraid it might crack the whole pipe.

It's aluminum - no reason you couldn't. Cutting with something that would insure a clean, straight cut, like a bandsaw, is a good way to go.

What are you trying to accomplish?

Basically... got the pettit intercooler without a duct. So went into that horrible xs intercooler duct group buy. I know they are not exactly the same but their fin dimensions are about right and it does fit. The duct kind of pushs the intercooler further back hence why I need to cut some of it off. I can't just shave some of it off the duct because I have the efini y-pipe so the intercooler sitting by itself in the engine is all tilted and funky looking. It almost rest right on top of the fans.. With the duct in place and with the intercooler piping corrected it looks like it will fit nicely and clear everything.

p.s.

Thanks for putting up the eibach installation guide on ur site.. I just used it yesterday .

For the silicon couplings do I get exact size or a little bigger so I can clamp it more easily?

The old style Pettit Coolcharge II was designed for the stock plastic crossover pipe, so the Efini crossover doesn't fit even with the proper air duct.

I cut about 1" off the Efini pipe to make it fit. IMO, I wouldn't cut the IC piping.

Hrm... but if I cut the efini pipe wouldn't it not hold as well because the notch it has for the coupling? Should I go for a 2.75 or 3 inch coulping?

I would modify the duct before I touched the intercooler... besides, how much worse could it be if you modify it?

That is a concern, but I never had that problem. You can always cut off the end and then reweld it back on after taking another inch off the pipe if you want the lip back on it.

I would just modify the duct only but its the efini y-pipe that is causing the problem. Because the current location of the intercooler is almost crushing my fans.
