Update

First of all, I appologize to everyone for the serious delay in information pertaining to this project. I know that many of you are following this project closely. If you've noticed, I haven't had the chance to log in to RX7club in quite some time (the last time I posted anything was probably 2-3 months ago). I've been moving houses and changing jobs which has caused me to shift focus to other things recently. With that said, I'm trying to get back into the swing of things here at the boards.

Here's the updated status report:

I have been running this system on my 93 now for about 3 months. Unfortunately in April, I spun a front main bearing, causing me to rebuild the engine. Obviously this failure had nothing to do with the solenoid system, but it did hinder my testing abilities, slowing the project slightly. It took me about a month to get the car up and running again. After that time, I resumed testing.

To this date, the system is working flawlessly on my car. I also have 3 other "prototype" systems being used by various other RX-7s owners, and these systems are also functioning just as designed.


I am currently working on getting approval from the board owner/admins to begin distributing custom solenoid systems to club members.

Comments, suggestions, questions?

I guess the thing people are looking to know would be if the boost pattern is correct, and if the response is identical to stock, or improved.

Correct me if i am wrong as I do not own an FD... yet.

I am simply amazed by this project. if you start to distribute this system i will be first in like ready to buy a unit from you. Dead serious. Im very excited about this seeing how i have nothing but trouble with my seq system. /me adds thread to favorite's.

Great to hear that the system is working, and thanks for the reply to my PM. I will be looking into doing this also, considering I am in the process of rebuilding.

How complicated is it getting the right wiring to the right solenoids. Was there much extending or splicing, or did you just make the new wires from the solenoids to reach the stock location of the origanal plugs (stock solenoid location).

The boost pattern with these is exactly what it's supposed to be (or whatever you set it at if you have a boost controller). Technically, these solenoids have a quicker response time than the stockers, but it's really nothing that you'd notice if your stockers are functioning properly (we're talking miliseconds). Obviously, if your stockers are NOT functioning properly, you'll notice a huge difference.

In regards to the standard 5-solenoid "simplified" system, three of the solenoids plug directly into the stock harness (I have even color-coded these for easy installation). For the other two solenoids, you will need to splice into your harness. I will provide all necessary wire and connectors (including heatshrink) to do the job properly. If you require additional solenoids, this may require additional splicing. But it's really not that difficult.

As I mentioned before, some of the components are custom ordered and made. Therefore the easiest and cheapest route will be to go through me, as I'm an authorized distributor. I will have more info on this soon.

more specifically the simplified system. I was planning on doing this anyways as my emissions solenoids are just taking up space.

Basically, what I ended up building is a completely custom 5-solenoid setup (I'm running simplified sequential, so I only have the following solenoids: Purge Control, CCA, CRV, TCA (pressure), TCA (vacuum). These solenoids can be bolted together in almost any combination imaginable.

Solenoid specs:
Viton seals
Stainless steel internals
Molded coil (resistant to water, and high temperatures)
Custom aluminum manifolds
100psi rating
Use custom #10-32 brass nipples
Better flow and reaction time than stockers
Rebuildable
Cheaper than stockers (approximately $40ea)
