I really like this -- and to think I was working on a system too for this same problem. I have run simplified sequential and loved it but I still wanted a cleaner look as under the UIM its still crowded. I have an extra solenoid than you do as I kept the FPR solenoid for easy hot-starts, I dont imagine your system would require much changing at all for that.

Do you have a picture of the wiring and what you did with the original harness, etc so that all solenoids registered normally and the others didnt set off codes? I used 300ohm 1/2watt resistors in my connectors but I think I need to redo them as I was still getting codes. I'd like to see what connectors your kit uses, etc -- it may just be more worth my time to buy one of your kits and call it a day as it certianly looks clean.

I hope to see more as this is a really clean setup, even better than what I was planning (custom rack for stockers mounted to the firewall) I never foudn suitable solenoids so the stockers were my only option.

EDIT: Do the solenoids share a common ground?

Adding a 6th solenoid would be extremely easy. The only thing I'm unsure of is whether or not it would fit where I mounted my rack (next to the ABS box). I would have to build one and do some fit testing with it.

I do not have a good pictures of the connection points, but I can work on getting that for you if you want it. Not much was done to the harness other than splicing 2 new connectors in. I also cut off all the unused connectors, but that's definitely not required. Personally, I run a PFC, so I don't worry about setting off codes. If needed, than I can also include resistors to provide a compelte "bolt in" kit. Also, just FYI, I think the correct resistor to use is a 330ohm (not 300).

The solenoids do NOT share a common ground. They are wired virtually identically to the stock ones (which makes the install very straight forward)

The best I can give you right now is an estimate. I really can't discuss price further until a few of the details have been finalized (plus I need to get approval from board admins for that).

From page 2:
This particular prototype probably cost about $275 to build (maybe a little more). For the final versions, you can estimate about $45-50 per solenoid.

Could be a little more, or a little less, but at least that figure will give you a close idea.

I could see this being a "must" mod for anyone with sequential twins. The relocation alone would be huge, as you could troubleshoot any problems, and fix them much easier. The better solonoids are just icing on the cake.

Considering that a vaccum line job is about $4-500, and if your mechanic does any significant troubleshooting, and/or needs to remove the UIM to fix or check anything on the current system, this thing will pay for itself very quickly.

this is a great idea. i'm sold on it. i'm still running stock, with secondary boost problems. i'm about to get a rebuild, so what better time to convert to this? i thought about going single, but that was really going to hurt my wallet. then i came across this thread. i swear it was heaven-sent. keep us updated. i'll take a set asap.

Update

Here's an update, but only because you asked so nicely Neil

The bottom line is that the simplified solenoid system is complete, and ready for distribution. Some people have asked me about the status of a FULL solenoid conversion. I am still working on that, but need a little more time to work out the kinks and test fit it in the car. Stay tuned for more info on that.

As far as the simplified system goes, here's some reasoning behind the recent delay: One of my suppliers that built the custom hexless barb fittings recently went out of business. This has caused me to scramble to find another supplier. Rather than go with another hexless design, I chose to use a low-profile O-ringed fitting. This will provide for a much better seal, and should hold up much better. I have also decided to throw in some upgraded check valves (I feel that replacement of the stock check valves is an absolute must). Unfortunately, these little changes have caused me to raise the price of the system slightly.

You can currently expect a price tag around $300 for the 5-solenoid system. This includes the 5 main solenoids (TCA-vacuum, TCA-pressure, CRV, CCA, and purge), upgraded check valves, all the required fittings, wire, connectors, heatshrink, vacuum diagram, instructions, and shipping anywhere in the lower 48 (for those who asked, I'm still looking into the possibility of overseas shipping). I will try to get that price tag under $300 if I can (It definitely won't go above 300). Also, for those that are interested, I will have options to delete the purge control, or the check valves in order to lower the price slightly. More on that as the group buy starts.

Currently status: I have sent a PM and e-mail to the board administration to get permission to initiate the GB. I have been told that Ryan is on vacation, so I may have to wait a few days. You guys will hear about it as soon as I do.

Almost there

Very interested...

Considering doing a hose job shortly (As I think one of my solonoids is playing up...sometimes no boost during overtaking manouvers) So doing this would be fantastic.

A few questions though

Would this fit the last of the Series 6 JDM vehicles (I have an Australian Spec Series 7...same as the series 6 JDM). (Running a PFC in the next few weeks, so ECU is no probs)

Is there a way to make the install look factory? Would it be possible to place the solonoids somewhere less visible?

Being an international delivery I will need a freight price this way...UPS deliver to Australia no problems however.

What would the estimated time be to convert to simplified and install all hoses etc? Just so I can allocate enough nights off..

What kind of boost can those solonoids handle? I will be aiming for some severe twin snail boost shortly.

I'm sure that it'll work with your generation RX-7. However, I am not aware of what style electrical connectors your harness uses. Therefore, I can't guarantee that this will be direct plug-and-play. You may have to do a little more cutting and splicing than us over here in the states.

As far as the time goes, that really depends on your level of expertise. I would set aside at least a full weekend to do the job. It may take you a little more, or a little less.

These solenoids have a 100psi operating rating. So basically, they can take anything the twins can throw at them

-Rob

Edit: I forgot to answer one of your questions: Yes these can be installed under the UIM to give it a more "stealth" appearance.

If I may, how many solenoid's does the stock system support and does this 5 solenoid kit simplify the system without negating any of the power from the stock set up?
