Talking custom intake pipe for FD apexi intake (pics)

i try to do all the work on my FD myself (sometimes thats good and sometimes its not) ok, so i didnt fold the steel myself but i did cut, measure, polish and bend a pipe to fit perfectly with my apexi intake. and it only cost me $35 and 3 hours, not bad id say. the pipe was $15, the silicone tubing and brackets were $10, and a friend of mine polished the inside for $10.

well this is how it turned out, im pretty pleased with the results (better than the stock rubber acordian at least) the hardest thing was getting it to clear the hood but with a few bend adjustments it was all good. the intake sounds great under hard throttle and got rid of this damn fart sound it was making under boost.

not bad at all!

It totally got rid of the fart/moo sound? That's the first thing I noticed after putting on the Apexi intake. I might have to give that a try, how did you bend the pipes?

BlackR1: thanks! my pops owns a watercraft high performance shop in san clemente, he has a machine that mandrely bends pipes to your liking. you can go to any muffler or exhaust shop and they will bend a pipe for you as long as you have the dimensions, doesnt cost much cash either.

i had to make a few re-bends here and there so it probably doesnt look as clean as it could have. im gonna bend another one and maybe get it powder coated or polished on the outside for a better look. but for now, im just happy to get rid of that damn fart/mooo sound, and it flows great!

Nameless:

I'd take the whole kit, but if it's too much trouble I'm sure I can find the silicone couplers myself.

I'm in for a kit when you get it all worked out. Heh, since you seem to have the resources, have you thought about making a simple heat-shield that channels cold air from the side of the radiator to the intakes? You can just use a piece of cardboard as a template and use it to fabricate a piece sheet metal... I don't think it would be hard to do and I'm sure some people would be interested in something like that also.

how much would you charge just for the pipe (already bent) and the silicone?

thats a good idea, i thought about that when i was installing the pipe. the pipe lets you bring the apexi adaptor closer to the front of the car. if you look at the pics you can see 2 open holes from were the stock air box used to be, (front of radiator) the intake cone is now located directly left. i maybe could make some kind of redirectional shield to get more cold air to the cones. or i could be going completely overboard! what do you guys think?

your right, they do sell em, thats what made me make mine in the first place. they charge way to much for a damn pipe! the M2 one is much better looking than mine but functions the same, thats all i was really looking to do. my next attempt to perfect it will look more appealing hopefully.

that looks nice. you should consider making full intake/intercooler hardpipe kits. you would make a killing.

kind of hard to see the holes but i was thinking of something along the lines of the n-tech cold air "box" which sort of isolates the intakes from the turbos as well as channel air from the side of the radiator. i guess performance gains might be minimal since the intakes seem to sit farther up from the turbos w/ your piping anyway. a heatshield would more or less just be an L shaped piece of sheet metal though. i think re amemiya sells a heatsheild for their intake that could be used as a template for the apex intakes but i don't know anyone that has it here in the u.s.

Maybe it's me, but my bottom intake bends towards the intercooler and the top one is straighter, where yours is just the opposite. I'm sure these can't be put on backwards, or can they? I can restle up some pics if interested.. This extension pipe would help me out alot because I'd like to stick my BOV where the Power Intake normally mounts (where you have your APEXi BOV in the pic), what's the status on possible "production"?

dope looking intake. i'd be game for it...how much are the apexi filters? where can i get the silicone couplers, etc, if I wanted to get the pipe only from you? So, yes, I might be interested in the pipe if you've got it all perfect...what's the pipe made from?

Also, WTF was the fart/moo sound you were hearing? That's a hoot to hear that something could make that sound, but makes me wonder what the hell was happening...
