Custom hood insulation

I'd like to add some heat reflective hood insulation over top of the turbo charger. I see DEI offers an underhood insulation option, anyone have some experience with it? I saw some folks at DGRR that had some custom reflective batting under the hood that appeared to be very functional. I did look at the OEM insulation, and eventually I may go that route, however the shipping cost/risk of damage is a concern, and non-reflective.

I bought a new one some time back, it comes in a big flat box and seemed to ship well. I don't know if it's still available now or not, though.

DEI has tons of heat reflective stuff that you can stick under the hood.

Still available, but the least expensive shipping cost I've found is around 115 dollars on top of the price of the insulation. I may still go that route because it looks great, but I like that DEI reflective batting material as well. Or I could also add some reflective tape to the oem insulation over top of the turbo.

How is your thermal management in the turbo area?

The Downpipe, wastegate and turbo is lava wrapped (DEI turbo blanket and Heat shield products wastegate blanket) with inconel heatshield on the turbo manifold. Everything that can be covered is covered, but the hood itself I've noticed still gets hot particularly in traffic or after the car is stopped.

I understand that it may be somewhat expensive to do so(unless you go to the source) but i would inconel shield the downpipe and the turbo also. To my experience the wrap does not do much. If you try to insulate the source of your heat its better for the surrounding components.

and after that i would do the oem insulation on the hood

Ask Ray, he has shipped a lot of big stuff for VERY low shipping for me. Like a giant box of rebuild parts and a rotor housing for $15.

Worth double-checking that.
