Custom Antenna

I was thinking of relocating my antenna since I do not like the stock location. My car is in the body shop, so I figured now is a good time to do something different with it. I was thinking maybe one of those small VW antenna's on top of the car, but it might make it look like an RC car.. Don't know. Anyone have any ideas? Pictures of yours?
Thanks

I would just eliminate the powered antenna and just use the factory antenna that's in the rear hatch glass. It works good for me.

Hmm, didn't even think about that. So you don't lose that much reception?

I'd shave off the power antenna, sell the parts on ebay, and get either sirius satelite radio or a cd player with mp3 technology....700 MBs of mp3s is a lot of music

I can't live without an in-dash MP3 player, but I won't be driving my FD enough to justify equipping it with Sirius Satelite radio in it.. I'm getting it for my everyday driver though.

How do you hook it up to the rear hatch glass? I didn't know our cars had that.

Hmm, my power antenna is broken, and stuck in the "almost down" position (about 6" coming out of the fender). My reception has gone noticeably downhill since that happened. I didn't know we had antenna elements in our hatch glass. Why would Mazda use both a powered antenna AND a glass antenna? I'm confused.

Mine too. I recently replaced the antenna mast on my car and with the power antenna in the down position reception definitely sucked. Color me one of the guys who thinks your reception will be poor using nothing but the window antenna...

I ordered one of those 1" antennas that I'll be mounting to the back of my roof. I'll post pics and let you know how the reception is.

Uses both to pick up a clearer signal and filter out noise, helping to improve clarity.

Remember to leave room for the open sunroof if you have one. Gordon Monsen had an XM radio antenna/fin on the roof of his base model and it would not have fit on my car with the roof open. Frankly, I think the stock unit is less obtrusive looking than having a large shark fin on the roof.

Mine is broke also. My reception sucks soo bad I haven't even turned on the radio since it broke 8 months ago. I just looked through the FSM and there isn't anything I could find on an antenna in the rear glass, just the defroster.

BTW, for those of you with broken antennas. Turn on your radio, wait until the antenna stops trying to raise, and then push down on the antenna as someone turns off the radio it will usually feed back in.
