CRV Venting

My boost is venting through my CRV. I've tried 2 other CRV's and still have the problem. What solenoid controls the CRV?.. Better yet, what would cause this to happen?

Thanks

Solenoid H = Charge Relief Solenoid.

Have a look at the vacuum diagram - it's pretty obviously the gold colored line. If the electrical connection is mixed up or damaged, or the solenoid is malfunctioning, or the lines running to/from it are misrouted, loose, or leaking, the CRV will not stay shut.

If you really want to know what the CRV is doing, a friend of mine has a piece of hose that fits perfectly in the opening of the CRV and factory BOV. It's long enough to run under the hood (exiting the windshield area) and into the cabin. You can hear it venting right up untill transition (4500 rpm) then it slams shut and if working properly no air is heard. This may help you determine between the CRV leaking and a large leak under the hood from some other source. Hope this helps, Jack

Man.... that would be cool to actually see the BOV and the CRV working from inside the car... hehehe.

Makes finding a leak easier (need a co-pilot to do this) as the driver watches the road, co-pilot watches the boost gauge, tach and listens to the crv. Primary will show boost till transition, see a slight drop, then hear CRV close and boost return to 10psi, if it closes and you lose boost then the problem is else where.

The "tube" he is referring to doesn't allow you to "see" anything. It makes it easier to "hear". However, when I had my Charge Relief Solenoid fail, the sound of an open vented CRV (without ducting it into the cabin) was VERY audible with the windows down.

Yep allows you to hear it working, where it aided in finding a boost leak was that when it closed shut you could then hear a leak under the hood and then knew for sure the CRV wasn't hanging open as you can't tell that the crv had shut and the boost leak began it sounded the same from the cabin. Like I said just another tool in helping troubleshooting the turbo's. Yo udon't realize how much air a working set of turb's will push through the crv till you vent it into the cabin ! ! ! !

Mine is VERY loud as well. Sounds like a BOV except it's throughout acceleration.
