Is your odometer working? The cruise control has to have the odometer working to function correctly. If your speedometer or tach is out this will also affect it. Also, check the wiring to the switch in the dash.

There's also the clutch safety switch and brake pedal switch.

Sorry to break in but what is the speedlimit on the cruise control in the usa?

Mine is a japanese import and the cruisecontrol will not go faster then 68 miles / 110km/u.

My Japanese import was the same. 110km/h was the max. I swapped in the cruise ECU from a Australian delivered one and now the cruise engages at speeds higher than 110km/h.

Mine would work off and on. I replaced the cruise control motor unit under the hood and it fixxed my problem. And it was cheap...

We're fixing to work on this today. It's a strange problem.

So far, we've swapped the cruise actuator from my car, swapped in another cruise brain, swapped out instrument clusters, and tested the clutch/brake/neutral switches with the cruise diagnostic. Everything passed OK.

Doing a general test on the cruise system, an Error 1 comes up, which is some vague error. I'm thinking it's a wiring or ground error.

Hope to figure something out on this, did a search and a few other people had the same problem - cruise "on" switch comes on, but hit the "set" and it never engages.

Dale

I wanted to create a thread regarding my faulty cruise control, but you got me lol.my cruise control was behaving the same and the solution is simple.dismantle the cruise control motor and at the bottom there are two switches.most likely these are "tired".on my car the faulty on was the right.do a search on the internet based on the part numbers that are written on top of the switch and you will easily find replacement parts.dessolder the old switch solder the new one and you are good to go.

Very interesting! Thanks for the tip!

Big problem here is we're having the same problem with my known working actuator on his car. Running the trouble codes for the cruise, I get a 1 code, which is actuator, wiring to actuator, ground, or brake light switch. Tested all the wiring with my meter today, all good, tested the brake switch, good, swapped it out anyhow just to check, STILL nothing.

So, I'm stumped.

I also experienced a problem with the cruise control which turned out to be the odo, as was mentioned above.

Dale,

Could it be one of the "switches"? I know I've replaced so many swithches that it wouldn't surprise me to find the "on steering wheel" switch to be shot. Did you check it/those? By the way, mine doesn't work either and I've just replaced the ECU piece with no change. Keep looking . . .

Do a search on my name, we fixed the problem on this car and I made a LONG thread about how to troubleshoot cruise control.

In this case it was the brake switch. Adjusted it properly and cruise has been working perfectly since. It may eventually need a new brake switch, but at $35 it's quite reasonable for one.
