couple of 3rd gen rotary questions
ok, im looking into buying a 93 or 94 twin turbo rx7 soon and i want to get some more info on these before i get one
what kind of gas mileage can i get from a 3rd gen rx7, im guessin with the turbos id need 91 octane gas?
are they good cars? my dad said that one of the worst cars to get is a used sports car b/c they have most likely been driven hard and they can have many problems, like his friend bought a used porshe and had it for 6 months b4 he sold it b/c it was so bad, thats only 1 case but how reliable are the rotary engines, i mean, why arent they still in production here?
thanks for the answers guys

this topic gets covered every week, but i'll chime in with my .02 cents.
Yer dad is right, try to find a second hand FD that hasnt ben ragged. Rotaries are as reliable as you make them. Its all on the previous owner, and yourself on how long your motor will last. Id say, buy the car with an extra 4k on the side, bc u dont know how the previous owner treated it, or their maint. schedule. Basically, buying any second hand car, you run the risk.
If yer under 24, look to pay anywhere form 200-450 a month for insurance (im 19, and have only a parking ticket, and great grades in college, yet im paying 330 monthly). Gas, the window tag says 18, but realistically look for 15 as an average going around town. Youll always want to run premium octane, nothing less. dont cop out and get low grade fuel and plop in some octane booster like some people i know. If you invest time and money, a third gen is a great car, but if your a slouch with scheduled maint., then look for a differnt car

The RX-8 is coming out soon, and it has a rotary engine.
Do a search and you should fin dhte answers to most of your questions.
gas mileage for 3rd gen = 14-16mpg in general, and YES use the highest octane you can get in your area.

I think the worst car is a neglected one. Most sports cars aren't neglected bc they are expensive and the owner typically has the money to keep it decent.
Those cheap new cars are probably subject to more abuse and lack of care. Also, most are bought by first time drivers that don't know how to maint cars.
To answer your other question, gas mileage is between 14-20, depending on city or hiway.
If you worry about reliability, look some where else. If you don't understand why we all love our cars, take a test drive in one and you'll be addicted.
I have a hard time not driving my car for a few days even if I don't need to get out of the house.

the gas mileage depends on how aggressive of a driver you are. If you're going to go test drive a FD, bring a boost gauge. You don't want to get screwed into buying an FD with screwed up turbos. Stock boost sig. should be 10-8(@ 4500rpm)-10(almost instantly after the drop to 8psi.

Go to the 3rd gen forum (top one) and read the sticky. Read those articles in there. Anything else is stupid because those 2 sites have all the information you will need on buying an FD. By waiting for answers you will get some, or most of the info but not all.
