correct me if im wrong(double throttle)

OK i just went through two f&*%in pages wiuth double throttle questions and noone mention the actuator.Basically i want to remove the double throttle whilst im doing my vaccum hoses, i got it planned but just correct me so i wont **** it up..

so what i am going to do ...

here it is:

1:remove butterflies(no matter how im gonna do it - i use a grinder if i have to :] this will be me guide : http://www.rx7.org/Robinette/double_throttle.htm )

2:then im gonna take the actuator off and plug the hiole inside the double throttle with a bolt with some loctite

3:blank off the pipes on the double throttle solenoid(ill leave the solenoid plugged in to kep my stupid stock ECU happy)

4:blank off the nipple on the UIM

jobs done right? or am i missing something? the only thing im not sure of is actuator, im not gonna need it right?

cheers guys

That will work except you don't need to block of the nipples on the UIM. It's actually just a pipe running through the UIM and isn't exposed to intake air. Putting a bolt through the UIM where the actuator was is a kind of shoddy. Take the UIM to a welder and have them weld the hole shut. In my opinion if the bolt breaks off or the loctite breaks loose it isn't worth losing an engine over.

you can tap and plug the hole for the double throttle with a 1/8 NPT plug. Its tapered so if it somehow miraculously breaks free of the locktite and comes loose it will only back out instead of going into the motor.

So why are you doing the double throttle elimination if you are still on stock ECU? It wont gain you any extra powero

i dont need to plug the nipple on UIM? hmm i think i have read something about plugging it whilst going through posts about dt removal.. well good to know, im gonna phone up few welders tommorow.

why am i doing it? because i am already there, basically ill be changing my ECU once i get the money -started saving :] and i just dont want to be taking off the UIM again and again. i might have it polished if its not expensive (othervise i will never be able to save for my ecu, down and mid pipe etc)

:]

i removed my uim to remove mine, the screws were a bitch, then i followed the instructions on rob robinetts site, used screw to hold actuator in place without spring on it. works fine.

I want to temporarily disable the Double Throttle Actuator by removing/clamping its vacuum line to troubleshoot my boost. Can I do this without removing the UIM? I can't seem to find the hose, but I am a neophyte so maybe I missed it.

You can disable it by simply plugging the vacuum tube that feeds into the double throttle actuator on the extension manifold's firewall side. An easy temporary fix is to put a clamp style paper clip on the vacuum hose and see how you like it. You can of course remove the vacuum line that feeds the actuator. Be sure to plug the hose nipple on the extension manifold. Remember to take take it easy on the throttle until the car is fully warmed up.
