hey Sgtblue, what temps are you getting when cruising and idling. do you have a similar setup as me?

With ambient around 75 F. I'm seeing ~ 88 C. to 91 C. cruising. Idling or traffic with low boost (still in break-in) I see up to 94 C. but it drops quickly with the low fans.
Fluidyne, stock t-stat, FC thermoswitch and dual oil coolers. and about 40/60 mix coolant/distilled water.

Really? Those temps seem a bit high to me with a Fluidyne radiator. I have the stock radiator, PFC adjusted to come on @ 180, and 180 degree T-stat, and my temps are lower than that (not by much, but lower). Idle is around 85-87 degrees, cruising is the same, and boosting will get me into the very low 90s (unless boosting for extended periods of time).

As I've said before, if you are travelling at medium to low speeds, the design of the OE radiator, IMO, is more efficient than the thicker, less fins per square inch designs of most aftermarket radiators, including, probably, the Fluidyne.

So, it does not surprise me that you see lower temps with the OE radiator.

Obviously, at consistent high load and speed, the larger Fluidyne, Koyo, etc. will be better, assuming proper ductwork.

YMMV - this is just my opinion.

Dave

i would think with the larger coolant capacity the fluidine would cool better under all circumstances. granted my stock radiator was used, but i think the condition of it was still just fine. My fluidine cooled much much better then the stock unit. even in stop and go traffic. I also think once you reach a certain amount of modifications the stock one is drastically undersized. Almost all RX7 websites point to the stock radiator as barely sufficient for stock level power and drastically undersized once the car is modified. My experience as well as countless others proves this point when our heating problems with the stock radiator are eliminated by switching to KOYO/fluidine. I really doubt this information is out there just because the stock radiator is old.

No argument, I did say YMMV and that my statement was just an opinion, and that at high load/speed a Fluidyne, etc., would be better.

Why surprised? I'm running the stock t-stat and have not lowered the fan threshold via the PFC as you have. Currently I'm just using the FC thermoswitch, which IIRC, is set at about 95 C. Off-hand I'm not certain what the default fan settings are on the PFC, but they seem to be higher than the FC thermoswitch.
Additionally, if my fans were set to come on as low as yours (personally I wouldn't set mine that low...especially this time of year), I would expect similar idle temps.

I guess I would expect the temps to be a little lower, but as you stated you haven't lowered the fan threshold.

As for setting the fans to come on that low, that was Dave @ KDR's doing. The car's been running fantastically, so I have no problem with them coming on that low.

I wonder if your radiator is partially clogged by engine sealant from the fresh rebuild. Happened me to once, had to buy a new radiator. What a PITA, right after a rebuild!

Arrow Update!!!

alright, I just installed the undertray and took out the ac condencer (don't need it) and my temps dropped. here are the results

15 Mile Drive:
outside temp= 50-55 degrees F
water temp= 82-85 degrees Celcius

For the last week, the way i've been keeping it cool is by turnin on the ac so the fans would stay on. I would get 82- 86c with the fans. Thanks everybody for all the input. I'll post up the temps in hotter weather.
