Coolant and Hose Change Frequency
Coolant and Hose Change Frequency
How often do you change coolant?? According to Mazda recommendations or more frequently.
How often do you change coolant hoses? I have about 40K on mine and was wondering if I should be changing them out.

IMO, not all the hoses have the same life. The Turbo Coolant Hoses should be inspected/replaced at a higher frequency than the rest, as the heat from the turbos reduces their life.
Mazda recommends 30K miles for the coolant change. I change mine more frequently, as I don't drive the car much. Since the cooling system could be considered a weakness in this car, keeping up on the maintenance can only help the situation.
Don't forget to replace the thermostat.

if you use a mazda hose follow their recommendation, inspect them periodically, if you have the engine out replacing all of them is a great idea.
if you are using a non-mazda hose follow their recommendation (change every 18months)

Typically coolant change once a year is recommended. I end up doing it twice because I run a different summer mix than winter. johnchabin makes a good point. The turbo lines will age much more quickly than the others. These are 10 year old cars, if any of the rubber hoses are still original I would replace them merely because of age.

If the motor is out go ahead and replace every single one of them. It is sooo easy to do and not really that expensive.
T-stats fail often! Aftermarket temp guage is the only way to really know if your T-stat is OK. I've seen them fail with less than 1000 miles. You'd never know it by looking at the stock guage.
