Constant attention...

So maybe its because im new to the FD scene but before i bought the car i knew it would turn a head or two, however the constant attention it does get blows me away.

Today i washed it then went to best buy and back home. As im finishing the wash the guy the the bay behind me comes up and starts looking. I say 'hey man how ya doin' then he asks me about the car keeps looking asks to take a few pictures. Ok fine no big deal. Walk out of the best buy and there is practucally a whole family walking around it and looking real close, again not a big deal but i get this all the time every time i take the car out.

Other than getting pulled over for no reason other than to check my insurance and registration I havent had anything bad, but i gotta wonder if its just a matter of time.

Since im sure im not alone in this lets hear some stories

Friend of mine (stock body on the FD) had a guy come up to him and ask if it was a viper, he said no it wasnt and the guy tried to argue it with him saying, "no thats a viper!"

I've gotten that twice. Once by a 10 year old kid and the other one by this 35 year old guy, i think he was stoned. My dad was fallowing me and i turned into a parking lot and the guy i passed was staring at my car and ran my dad off the road. That was a good one, he was pissed i thought it was funny as hell.

as the car sits right now, 99spec front bumper, and a carbon hood... its even got the stock wheels on it. and i refuse to believe that a carbon hood brings that much attention, hell i cant wait till it gets in for paint and the hood matches.

My Car is stock in the exterior and black, the only black on my island. Although there are from 10 to 14 RX7s in just the area where I live I get people going around my car all the time I am out with it. Especially tourists (american and english) are always asking me what type of car it is. Even old people which usually do not even consider cars always make me copliments on my car.

They can do that....I didn't think cops can pull people over for things like that. Especially if your not doing anything wrong.

But anyways, the FD does get a lot of attention. I'll just share just one.
I was in the right lane of 4 lane a stop light (you know, 2 lanes going one direction and 2 going the opposite) minding my own business, when I turned to my left and I see a tiberon (sp?) with a teenage driver staring at me. He was coming to stop on my left. I thought to myself, "You better stop now." Needless to say, he did not stop his car. He had rear ended the car in front of him. Then the light turned green. I just looked at him, smiled, and then shook my head as I took off.

Been a while since she's been on the road. But two good ones. I was driving to work on the highway in the fast lane. I pulled slowly by a riced out civic and he was staring at the FD. His lane was a little conjested and he didn't realize that the car in front of him had hit the brakes. As I looked in my rearview I got a good picture of him slaming into the rear of some minivan ( I kinda felt bad).

I had to take my dad down to the Dodge dealership to get his Jeep worked on. I was looking for a place to park and the salesmen out front were giving me the eye. As I got out and walked past them one of the DODGE salesmen asked me "Hey is that an early model viper?" I was like... Nooooo... it's an Rx7. The second salesman was like "Oh I thought so by the exhaust note, I owned an older one."

*Edit* ^ haha, I guess having people stare at your car so long they rear end someone is a common occurance.

I allways get asked what kinda of porsche my car is. When I tell them it's a mazda their like.."what"??? What kinda mazda is that?? I know what you mean with the attention. I actually drove a porsche all summer. And it didnt get as much attention as my FD. I really don't like all the attention. I prefer to lurk under the radar.

Yeah I got that, "What is that car, a Porsche?" thing several times over. the only thing that miffed me is when my little cousin says " Nice Mustang" i wanted to puul the trigger on him.

I like it alot driving around getting the looks but hate when like a civic tried to race you. Usually I pull down when window and tell him hes not worth the gas.....

We all love FD'S so go FD!

Owning mine since 96, I have many stories. This is a buetiful car and have pondered the idea of selling it on and off. I have come to the relization that I will most likly keep it for ever.

I have been asked if it was a porsche, viper, and kit car. One I didn't perticually like was when someone asked me if it was a hard top miata.

I beleave the one I like alot is when kids tell me it is an awsome looking car, Brings me back to when I was a tike and doing the same thing, although there were fewer nice cars on the roads. (cough early 80's cough)

True that even in the early 90's ( my youth) There were much rarer the sports cars. maybe it was because people were comming out of the mid 80's recession but today I see s2000's rx8's Z's and G35's all over the place as well as m3's and the sort.

Just makes the FD that much more special....

I have gotten the viper, porsche, ferrari (wtf lol) statements many times. There hasnt been one time where i take out the FD, even just to go get gas 4 blocks away where someone didnt stare or beep at me to give a thumbs up or a smile or something. It really makes you feel good that you own the car, regardless if its a pain in the *** or not.

Even the people who own the high tech sports cars out now have given me respect about the car. Some kid down the block from me wanted to trade his black G35 coupe for my car, an even swap and his car cost almost 3 times as much as mine LOL.

I remember the first week I had my FD, I was in the parking lot of an uptown shopping center. An Escalade with a mommy type and teenage girls drove by, 'oh'ing and 'ah'ing, and pulled up behind the car asking each other what kind of car it was.

Then I heard "Oh. It's a Mazda..."

I too have had all those. Sometimes, it gets really anoying when it's the same comment over and over and over again. Especially that damn miata comment.

Here's another story. This happens quite often honestly. I will be driving on the highway, cruising at around 75 mph. Nothing extreme. I will look in my rear view mirror and find some sort of beater or riced out civic fly past me. It's like, they are trying to prove something. 1/2 the time, I dick around with them, drop it and fly past them (ricer burn). The other half, I just let them go and just say f*** it, it's not the ticket. One more ticket and i'm done. So, I have to be a little more careful.

About the miata thing. One night a few weeks ago i was sitting at a red and across the light in the turn lane behind one car there was one of the new mazdaspeed miata's. It seemed to me almost similar proportions. Is it just me or are the miata's getting bigger each time they remake them?

Back on topic
On the way back to NC from Baltimore after picking up my car (it was still on the trailer at this point) i got 4 people pulling up next to me and rolling down windows and trying to talk about the car while going 55. The funniest thing was when we stopped for lunch a guy that had just parked his car and was about to walk in to the restraunt offered to move his car so that we could park the truck + trailer w/ the 7 on it where it could be seen from the restraunt window.

I LOVE THIS CAR AND WILL KEEP IT FOREVER. I really dont think it will ever look "old".

Rob

Yeah, same here, but I just let them fly by. I get alot of "stoplight growls". I'm at a stoplight, somebody at the same light or across the street revs their engine really loud. As if that's supposed to impress/challenge/incite me..... Last night some guy in his "badass" pickup truck did that behind me while I was waiting at a light. WTF??

My personal favorite is the child pulling the arm of the parent and pointing. I know a lot have had this one happen. A good one was when a Newer Mustang, which color was very close to mine, rev his engine as he went buy me and I was stopped in traffic, well let's just say he was paying way to much attention to me and had to lock them up and go into the curb to avoid hitting the stopped car infront of him. Him and his little sister were out checking out the damage to his tires and rims as I passed buy and gave him a little bov action.
