Consensus on motor swap??

I want to know from people that have done a motor swap, is it easier to pull the motor with tranny attached or without it attached? I am thinking ahead when it comes to reinstall and trying to line engine and tranny splines. I am at the point of the pull right now after I figure out how to get the last top rearward bolt in forward exhaust pipe. Any information would be appreciated.

I am sure this has been asked before, but I could search for days.

I have done both, and find it much easier to pull the engine and tranny together. That is, of course, with one of those bars which allow you to crank the angle of the unit you're lifting...

With my limited experience, I find it easier to pull the tranny with the engine if you have the stock motor mounts. With aftermarket motor mounts, I leave the tranny when pulling the engine (as it's very easy to mate the the engine to the tranny during reinstall with aftermarket mounts).

Thanks guys, that what I figured. That upper bell housing bolt looks like a bear to get too as well.

We pull or install at least one engine every week, I personally find it easier to leave the trans in the car. Much less weight swinging around and overall less time involved.

I like pulling the whole lot out, getting the clutch free can be a pain sometimes.

pulled mine today, yesterday i removed all intake, and turbo parts. today drained fluids and removed power steering pump, compressor, and water lines. tranney was easer to unbolt from from engine. ratchet wrench on top 3 bolts air tool on bottom bolts. I find it easy to use impact to unbolt pressure plate. used chain came out straight. and up. good luck!
