My engine light goes on and off while I am driving. I have a hole or 2 in the muffler and I'm planning to replace it soon. I am wondering if this will help?. Is there any way to investigate this problem without paying like $100 dollars just to find out whats wrong. I am experience a mild shaky idle but I think its because of the holes. I am a new 93 owner, just got it like 2 months ago, and I am curious if I am using the right oil??? I use castroil syntec 10w-40. Please help, I wanna keep her in good conditon until I can afford a rebuild.

Well the debate will rage over synthetic vs non-synthetic but most run non-synthetic oil. 10W-30 for colder times and 10W-40 for warmer months. Also change your oil and filter every 1500-2000 miles. I doubt the check engine light is coming on because of the muffler. You can pull the engine codes yourself and check the number and frequency of flashes. I am sure if you do a search for engine codes you will find the thread with the location of list of codes. Also go here to read up on most of the stuff you should know:
