Concerns of Fd.

ok im interested in buying a Fd. i love these cars as much as the FCs. Im not sure if im in the right place so here it is.

i want to learn more about FDs. like concerns about them? problems they have? worries? what i should look for? what i should learn about?

i know about the engines. i have a rx7 fc but im guessing there much different then Fcs.

So your comments will be helpful. thanks

Read the FAQ stickied near the top of this section, lots of good info. Spend a little extra(or even alot extra) for a well cared for properly maintained car, in the end its loads cheaper than buying a cheap neglected one.

My advise is to just take good care of it. Very good care of it.
Dont neglect any small problems, do regular oil/coolant changes & regular spark plug changes..same as any rotary. Dont give it boost till warm. Monitor gauges all the time..common sense really.
Dont be a dumbass and you might be ok.
I also sometimes open my bonnet and give the visible vacuum lines and other hoses a little look over and let the car cool down with the bonnet open when I arrive home.

Treat the car as if it has feelings.....lol. G/L!! FD's are one of a kind cars that are still driven on the streets today.

Fd's are a very fun, very expensive toy. They are old, unreliable, and needy. Buying one is often the cheap part of the experience.

Commit to learn. Read, search, and take your time buying.

After I bought mine I spent about 2 years just reading posts here. It's a lot to learn.

The most important rule of thumb of owning an FD is to have another car. Preferably a very dependable one.

get a very well taken cared of one, hopefully stock. Perform the reliability mods and then leave the car alone (dont mod it). If you do this I guarantee that you will not understand why the FD got such a bad reputatition.

Since you've got an FC you'll have a fair idea of what you're in for. I've had 2 FCs and now the FD. The FD is a much newer and "better" put together car all round, but at the same time, it's very efficiently put together. It's also a little more complex but nothing too troubling. I take care of my FD much more than my FCs, I guess it's because it still feels like a new car. The FC is a very 80's car. The FD still feels new to me.

+1 Spend a little extra for a nice, clean unabused one.

Bought mine over a year ago and have taken it pretty easy on the car and kept up with maintenance. So far no issues whatsoever over the past year.
