How much should a compression test run
The local Muzdah dealer wants $114 for this. Is that in the ballpark? I do not trust them to much due to past expierences with them; what exactly is the procedure for the compression check, what kinda of printout should I get from them to make sure they do it right?
TIA,
Brad

$114 IS PRETTY steep if I compression check is ALL that they are doing...
if it was a full "used car" check + compression that be somewhat resonable. They have a special measurement instument and the pull the plugs to test compression..
Each rotor should have 3 readings for the 3 faces...so you should have 6 numbers total.. The reading on each rotor should also not be more than .4 range (high to low on same rotor)...

I was thinking that was kinda high. Does anyone know what Mazda (Corporate) will reimburse the dealer for a compression check under warranty? I'm going to try and dicker the price down. And that is only for a compression check, I already own the car I'm just thinking about selling it, and some of the interested parties have asked for a compression check. Normally I would think that this would fall on the person buying the car, but I live in Alaska, so that isn't possible for anyone that has shown any interest in the car.

when I bought me second used Fd ...as the buyer I paid for the compression test...so I think they should too...ofcourse the first guy who pays is the one lucken out...but then again if the compression is good..he buys it and has that peace of mind..

what was the compression...6,7,8 +... you never can tell anyways..just takes one mistake to blow it...we all know that..
I'd say if it was low 6...I'd give it a year.. hard to say with the other numbers..you cant be certain

If that's US $$ that's top dollar(for a low compression engine)..... The engine is on it's way out...try to talk him down atleast 2-3K...because it's going to cost you about 4K to do the engine when it's time...which could be in a year or so...
