What seats are in your FD and did they change your driving position?

I just test fitted myself in my FD with a helmet on.... it appears I don't fit. #%$&!!

So, I was looking at getting a new seat with the hopes that it might put me a ~1/2 - 1 inch lower in the car. I don't want to bolt it to the floor (I know that might involve making a custom braket). Have any of you with aftermarket seats noticed that they lowered your driving position at all?

I was looking at the Sparco Milano or something similar that isn't an out-n-out racing seat - I'd like to be able to recline it a bit when needed.

Any suggestions?

I'm short 5'8" so the stock seats work fine provided I lean them all the way back. I have 0 clearance with the seats upright.

Are your seats leaned all the way back?

I doubt you can find an after market seat that lowers you that much without custom brackets or bolting directly to the floor -
the stock rails are not much off the floor & the stock seat is not very thick - I am considering a custom wheel that extends 1-2" further than stock so I can recline the seat more & still have a comfortable reach and still not be too close to the pedals

what model is your rx7 because r1 seats are lower. maybe you should ask your friends who has an r1 and see if that works for you. if it does i'm sure you can find somebody whos trying to sell theirs.

actually in both stock and aftermarket seats you can remove a little of the padding and will get enough headroom. works better with aftermarket seats and on custom rails you can tilt it back a little to fit. give dave at kd he's the one that gave me the tip, i'm 6'3.

I have a Touring.... is it true that R1 seats are lower??? or is it just that the R1 roof is higher (because it has no sunroof)?

Ed Everidge:
The seats were pushed all the way back - as you lean the seat back from that position, the roof curves down at the same rate, so leaning the seat back did nothing for me (I tried every position I could manage).

wptrx7:
I was thinking about buying a junk RX7 seat and tearing out the bottom cusion - I don't want to mess with my seat because it's in really good shape (low miles and I'm careful getting in and out). Thanks for the suggestion - it's good to know that it might work.

anyone else with an aftermarket seat?? The organizer of the race I'm going to miss now (because of this helmet issue) drives an FD with a Sparco Pro2000 - he said that it fixed his problem, but I'm not sure if he tore out his headliner.

Ok I've had both a R1 and a touring...I dont think r1 seats are any lower...you have more headroom because there is no sunroof. I currently have Sparco Milano's in my touring..or should I say PEG.. They are fantastic but they dont fit very well...I worked with the OEM rails to get them to fit which pretty much offset and gain in headroom...ok maybe I got 1/4-1/2 inch max. The seats are fantastic...did I say that already..but they touch the sides from now and again and I had to remove one adjust **** from each side so it does not hit the interior...see www.jayspec7.com.. he pretty much did the samething as I to make his torino's fit. Oh I also have the older Milano's..so I dont know how much that changes things..
