Question compression

i am looking at a 93 R1. the guy had a compression test done and it came up that both rotors had around 6.5, he said that that was average. is that good? what will be involved in fixing it if not? rebuild? i would like any advice or support.

also the car has 102k miles (so i will be getting a rebuild soon anyway) and he said that the turbos smoke. what would be involved in fixing that?

Check this thread about compression tests:

As for turbos smoking, typically you can count on needing a turbo rebuild:

dave @ kdr said healthy engines show from 7-8kg/cm^2
i think 6.5 is little weaker than what's considered a *healthy* engine.

besides the engine you also will want to think about other things that need to be replaced on a 102k mile car. i bought my at 99k, the bushings, the fuel pulsation damper, injectors, etc...adds up...don't forget about these things in addition to the engine. if i could do it over i would try to be patient and find a lower mileage one. hope that helps, just in case you are getting impateint and want an FD right away...

yeah, dun rush into buying an FD unless you're absolutely sure about it. Another helpful thing to do when buying an FD is bring a vacuume/boost gauge and measure how much mmhg it pulls....at idle ~800rpm supposedly it's supposed to pull 16-18 psi for a strong healthy engine. And 10-8-10 boost pattern to check to see if the turbos are in good shape too.
