He's more so asking why some people change their ecu with other stock ones. Not why the go to after market ones. I don't know the answer, but I though I might clarify what I think your saying.

Well I can answer some of the problems with the stock ECU:
1. Can't handle boost above 12 PSI (safely).
2. Has hesitations in it (the dreaded 3k for example).
3. Difficult to tune - requires "chipping", when aspects of the intake/exhaust tract are changed (cat removed, cold air intake, etc).
4. No readout on what the engine is doing, other than RPM.
5. Is only valid when all the anti-smog equipment is functioning - remove the airpump, for example, and the engine idle is messed up.

So I put in the Apex'i PFC and solved most of the above.

David Beale i think he is asking why people change the stock ecu for another stock one. I really don't know the reason and i wouldn't do it. I never heard any problem about the stock ecu, but if and when mine needs to be changed i will not go with another stock one.

STOCK ECU

I clarify my question.
I run my rx7 with stock ecu and PMS.
But for the last 5 week my stock ecu have bug, no code but not possibility to pass 2500rpm.
I stop my engine and remove (- cable) for 20 sec for clear memory. It's "ok" for one run, but if i stop engine the problem come back.
It's just for know if the stock ecu have commun trouble.

So you have tried to pull codes or you just haven't noticed the Check Engine Light coming on?

Something is putting the stock ECU into limp mode.

I don't want to buy use ecu with more trouble.
And i don't want to buy new one because i put my 20B in about 2 monts.
Thanks

If I remember right don't you have to disconnect the negative terminal and press the break to reset the ecu? Also if you have the data logit software for the pfs pmc you can run it "standalone" at certain rpm's to try to bypass the problem. You could do it as an experiment to see if the problem goes away.
