Hi guys I installed a hks intake and now I'm noticing at idle my exhaust manifold is glowing red??? What could cause this?

 

It's also the only mod on the car

 

a clogged cat or pre-cat may cause that

 

I had to stop starting my car tonight but I moved the filters and I think it stopped. Would starving it of air do that?

 

Your car running lean will cause that so I dont think a clogged intake filter would cause that.

 

Would running r2 on lead plug only do that?

 

What is your setup?

 

Only a hks super flow intake. No precat as it's a jap model so actual dump pipe glowing. Changed leads today one of the boots was torn but no damage that looks like it wouldn't work. I'll revert in 8 hours when I can start it and let u know.

 

Hey dudes. It was a bad spark plug. chearing lol and forced me to change the leads

 

I should check my plug before I go in to get a tune... Here is a pick of my manifold and turbine housing after 10 minutes at cruising speeds!

 

Good to see another one on my perspective anyway. I now need a brand new set of plugs. After a drive hitting boost a few times on the plugs that are unknown that I bought the car with same thing only at idle I did notice backfire increased so cannot be sure about plugs till I have brand new ones in. Will update you again.

Are you running rich or lean? If your manifold is glowing red you are running lean. Ether way are you on stock EMS? It sounds like you have other issues that are causing these symptoms

 

Are all the plug leads hooked up correctly?

Overly retarded timing can also cause the a/f mixture to combust in the turbo/exhaust. (It happened on mine after a bad tune)

 

Yep. Stock ecu so don't get it but plenty or backfire tells me running rich.

 

It's like it needs a tune. But stock setup should be stock setup even if I've messed with the intake yeah?

 

Other than this car runs perfect. 10 psi perfectly pulls so hard it can't be driven in the wet.

 

And just so you know. It looks very red in dark but the minute you shine light you can't see it anymore.

 

And FYI you can only see glow in darkness. Even phone flash makes manifold look Normal.
