Cold Air Intake
Hey, fellas. I have 93 fd 100% stock, and I wanted to get some more air flowing by getting rid of the stock air intake. I wanted to get cold-air intake, but don't know which one to choose. I see some Bomz pipe kit. What is the best cold-air for an fd? and would i be needing a bypass valve?

cold air intake? Well, there is the cheap stock airbox mod which pulls air from underneath the airbox instead of the intercooler duct. Otherwise, most of the aftermarket intake systems are not cold air. They are open filters that are usually right above the radiator. Other options include a headlight scoop or vented hood in some instances which may help get a bit more "cold" air. Try a bigger intercooler for more cold air, or at least a better/higher boost charge which is the equivalent. It'll be a bit more efficient in respect to trying to make large gains from colder, denser air. The bomz kit has crappy couplers from what I understand, but the pipes seem to be decent. However, those bomz pipes are not going to change your configuration for any sort of cold air setup.

Some tests have shown that K&N and Apexi work the best. The Apexi kit is good for the 200 bucks it costs on rx7store.net. AdamC sells a kit. PM him. The Pettit one has a heat shield but it's a little on the expensive side around 400. The hks one is overpriced. If you're feeling adventurous, buy the k&n filters and build your own. Good luck.

I like what Stevey629, Larz, Sgtblue have said to answer your question.
I would only add that for every modification you do, you risk upsetting the factory tune. You may notice idle problems, boost spikes, and risk of detonation with high-flow modifications.
All in all, I like Adam_C's because it isn't too over the top, and offers good gains.

I just got the Bomz Kit in Today....the upper pipe is great....the lower pipe does not fit well....and the couplers suck...almost better off using duct tape. But, for $35 It aint bad......but it aint good either.

Was someone looking for me
My intake mod keeps the stock look, and adds some significant power. It even passes smog. For $70, its dirt cheap
