circumventing the EGR failure code to use a 94 Pettit ecu in a 93ECU

Did a lot of searching.

Perhaps you can help me out, Mahjik.

I have read that when using a 94 Pettit ECU in a 93 it will cause an EGR failure code.

Is this the only known side effect?

Is there a way to fool the ecu?

Does anyone have a 94 Pettit ECU in a 93?

I have a 94 Pettit for sale and it seem there are a lot more members with 93s.

thanks

From what I understand, the 94+ ECU will look for the EGR which only the 93 Cali ECU's (and 94+) will have.

I don't think the EGR code will force the ECU into limp mode, so if that's the only problem it shouldn't be a big deal. I imagine it would be annoying to see the check engine light though...

Install resistor

You need to install a resistor (not sure of ohm rating, try search for "EGR removal") into the EGR valve electrical plug. If you removed the EGR solenoid, a resistor is needed in that connector also. The resistor is readily available at Radio Shack.

I'll look for the instructions from Spyfish's block off plate set for the ohm rating of the resistors. This will stop any check engine lights. However, I don't know if it will help the hunting idle.

It seems some cars run fine with no air pump and some idle funny. This is related to the idle mixture being leaner without the extra air being injected by the air pump. It may be possible to play with the air bleed screw on the throttle body to smooth things but I'm not 100% sure. I'd search for "air pump removal" on the forum and Ligthning in a World of Thunder to see if this might help.

Will post the ohm ratring this evening.

In case, yall didn't find this yet. You need resistors rated at 1/2 watt, 330 ohms.

I have a 94 petit ecu in my 93. It is a California car though. From what I have read, I thought the best way to fool the ecu was to use a relay setup?

any problems with it ???
does your check engine light come on?

I'd like to sell my Pettit ecu, it's from a 94 and heard it couldn't be used on a 93

Do you know your part number?

thanks

He has (or says he has) a Cali car, so he has the EGR.

Yeah. I have a California car, I've checked the VIN. I've had no problems at all since I put the Petit ecu in either.

I just thought I'd let you know that it does work in a 93 California car for sure.
