cheating emissions?

my friends dad is bugging the hell out of me saying theres all this crap he does to his ancient chevy pick up that will work on my fd to cheat emmissions.. aka alchohol leaning the motor out and so on... any of this sound like a good idea or are you with me when i say it will be better to put on a passing exhaust?

He may be correct , the exhaust makes little difference . I do alot of the cheating things for my car to pass and some for my customers .Alchohol is one of them .Do not discount us older mechanics . He may not know our motors but I know them and piston motors .

WTF? A turboback exhaust includes a DP, MP, and CB. You need to read the FAQ and Stickies because you don't know what your talking about.

no because i ran stock exhaust the year before and passed.. made no changes to the motor or anything else other than the turbo back ( which is nothing more than a strait pipe and muffler ) and i failed.

Do you have a boost gauge?

Is your wastegate ported?

I ask because if you have a "turbo-back" exhaust with no restriction, I can guarantee you're overboosting and well on your way to starting a thread about engine internals.

A boost controller isn't sufficient.

If by straight pipe you mean catalytic convertor then just put the cat back on and you should pass.

have a boost gauge, stock wastegate, not over boosting... by strait pipe i mean there is a 3 inch pipe from the turbos to the muffler. nothing but that, no room for a cat unless i cut it all up and put one in. but even then i dont have a cat to use. so maybe i didnt make things clear at first im sorry my bad it happens. i was just trying to see if i could do something without changing my exhaust to pass emmissions. the car is being rebuilt for the track with all new stuff anyways so im just going to have to wait

KABOOM I see a rebuild thread in your future. How much boost are you running right now?

search under 3 mod rules. your going to blow this motor and emissions will be the least of your problems.

You will NEVER pass emissions without some sort of cat on the car.

this is not true, it all depends where you go for the inspection. me and many of my friends have been running cars on the street for a few years with no cats.

even though every state in the u.s. has a required standard emissions check(cats, egr, ect...). not everyone does it, i assure you

The job of the technician is to make sure the cat is there. I suppose, if the guy is a screw up, it might be possible to pass with no cat. Even so, it would be very difficult to pass the sniffer without it..
