Yeah, I bought an Adam C kit... still havn't found time to install it though... but that's a different story... from what I understand... the Adam C kit is an idea that has been around... so I don't think that Adam C really has the rights to the mod... unless I am mistaken, & Adam C is the first one to come up with the idea. But what I see the $70 buying you is the service of Adam C to make a shield that fits along with instructions & support. It's probably not Adam C's idea to sell... but the service he provides of making the shield so that we don't have to is worth the money he charges.

In my opinion Adam C (or anyone for that matter) should be able to sell a prepackaged kit with support and documentation, but owes it to the community to pass on any knowledge he gained from that community. None of this is very different from open-source software where typically you have the right to make money on your own implementation and you have the rights to any modifications you make, but you have to give credit where credit is due.

Didnt mean to start some kind of argument here, sorry guys.

I just wanted to see if the cheap bastard intake was something I wanted use on my car. I had no intentions of making a copy for myself or others either. I am already running HKS RS intakes but I wanted to go with something more "sleeper." I just got a Racing Beat air duct in the end.

Thanks

It will look like stock and work at least as well and most likely better than your HKS intake. Its un-noticeable unless youre under the car and knowing what to look for.

Not all open source licenses are like this. The most common current license (the Mozilla License) only requires that you acknowledge any open source that you use in a project but you are under no obigation to share any modifications or extensions you make with the community.

Adam spent a certain amount of time researching and developing his shield. This is his intellectual property and he can effectively charge for it if he wants to.

To say that he should share this IP is absurd.

We are saying the same thing.

I'm not saying he should give away his designs, just credit the community for providing the concept and most of the early legwork behind his "mod". Most of the questions that he posed earlier have public domain answers, such as pulling the cold-air from next to the radiator. As detailed in the Thrifty man's cold-air intake on the robinette site.

Looking back, he may have overstated his case in this thread. I think we all know where the cold air comes from and in principle how to construct the shield.

I have one and am very happy with it.

Thanks to all for your support

For what its worth, I read all the stuff about designing your own intake on Robinette and Cirian's sites. After reading about it, I decided that I didn't like any of the designs where you had to run pipes or plumbing to the bottom of the box. I wanted a simpler design. Something that didn't interfere with the installation/removal of the airbox. After many hours of staring at the intake area, I came up with my idea.

I have not made much money selling these kits. What money I have made has helped to pay for some of the mods (listed below) on my car. So essentially, I am returning my "profits" to the RX7 community by supporting other rotary vendors and shops.

Most importantly, my wife can't complain at me about spending money on the car when she knows that a lot of it comes from the sales of my "Cheap Bastard Airbox" kits .

I believe I have 3 kits available right now. When they are gone, it is unlikely that I will make any more. Price has been $125 for at least 5 years. PM me if you want one.
