Are you talking about the shield or the holes in the bottom of the airbox? The robinette (I think thats what it is called) site has a description and pics of drilling the holes. You can probably figure out how to fashion a shield to keep the radiator air from blowing into the box. Not sure what else there is to Adam's mod because I've never seen it, but the basic ideas have been around forever.

Yeah, not to expose Adam C's kit, but you just drill holes in your airbox & install a heatshield he made to help keep out hot air.

I say just drill the holes on the under belly of the filter box then use/modify DAMIAN's heat shield template. Search under his name for the pdf file.

Thats what I did for a couple years, just use the lower half of damian's heat shield and wrap it around the heater hose. Works perfectly well.

I have it an own a camera. I chose to respect the wishes of Adam C who provided us with a quality product at a cheap price. I couldve gone with any of the box intakes or open filters but guess what? All of them look like **** and reduce your cars value. WEE! Haters go home. The cheap bastard intake is the best one youll get your hands on.

I respect adam's right to package and sell what is essentially an open source idea and people's right and reasons to buy it. But there is also a large group of DIY'ers who should know that they can open up their intake themselves with just a little effort.

If you want to make your own intake, that's great. If you want to copy mine, I don't think that's too cool.

When making your own, you should consider a number of things:

What kind of metal to use?
What thickness?
Where do I get the metal?
How much should I buy?
How do I cut it?
How am I going to bend it?
Where am I going to bend it?
How do I make sure that the shield doesn't interfere with anything else?
Where will the cool air come from?
Where do I cut the airbox?
How do I make sure that I don't cut away too much of the airbox?

For $70, you don't have to figure out any of the above. It's all done for you. You don't have to spend countless hours to try and make a product that won't be as good as mine. It won't fit as well. It won't have all of the proper bends. I have developed and improved the design of the shield over the years, so that it is much improved from the original design. In addition, I include detailed installation instructions.

I can understand wanting to make your own, but it really doesn't make any sense when you can get a proven product for only $70 (shipped).

The materials can all be picked up at any home depot and tin-snips will cut the aluminum.

Again, I'm not saying its right to copy adam_c's work, but the ideas behind it are essentially public domain and I don't think its right to try to claim them for your own.

Go get a patent Adam if you so worried about it. I could see if this guy was wanting to mass produce these things and undercut your sales. But it seems that hes just wanting to make his own and get a few ideas on how to do it.

And for how much you try sell these things...has it been approved by the forum admin?

um, 70 shipped for an intake mod that takes his time to make and ship out. if a company made it, it would be more than 100. He has MANY positive reinforcements from members and doesn't solicit majorly. probably doesn't make a whole lot of money on them, etc...

I for one would be pissed if someone was saying "I don't like the idea of paying someone a [relatively] small amount of money for their time, research, and effort, So I'd like some pictures of their effort [read: time money, and research] so I can copy it and not support members such as Adam C"

That is what it comes down to. btw, go buy the tools and the supplies and think of the cost of shipping, and then take into account the nuumber of hours you are going to spend making it and ask yourself how much your time is worth. see if 70 is such a bad deal then.

Seriously people, grow up, I know this is the age of "copy everything cause you can" but ****** hell guys, he is not THE MAN, he is a little guy looking out for other rx-7 enthusiasts and only making a SPARING profit off of each item. make your own design and figure out your own research. don't kneecap someone that is doing good for rx-7's. go kneecap some rip-off company on ebay or something. ****.

If youve got an rx7 and you cant find $70 bucks youre in more trouble than sourcing an intake. After like once or twice I learned to keep a decent chunk of change handy for when she goes berzerk.

No offense, but people were doing this stock airbox modification before you started selling your kit.

That said, $70 is CHEAP for a well refined product that WORKS. No guess work if you buy the cheap bastard intake.
