Charge Control Solenoid !
Well, my engine is almost completely assembled. While assembling one of my stems on the charge control solenoid snapped. I tried to glue around it hoping it would hold just to get my car started. So anyway, I got the rest assembled and reconnected the ECU, then go to see if it turns over. Sure enough it does for about 2 seconds, then something started smoking under the UIM! Smelled like burning plastic or something. Now the car wont even begin to turn over, doesnt even click!
Now would the charge control solenoid cause the car to not turn over? Or possibly what else?

no... sounds like you have a pinched power or ground or just about any wire would do it.(smoke) Where did the smoke come from?(which area of the engine) Funny thing that most people don't know about electricity is that it doesn't work well when you let the smoke out of the wires!! Hahaha!! Take a look at where you think it came from, then I hate to say it but start taking stuff back off and look for the bad wire/wires/harness. Go slow and be ****! Any open wire will be enough. Maybe try looking at the alternator wire(power) and see that it didn/t come off and touch anything.Good luck!!

Thanks for the quick reply.
The smoke came from right beneath the upper intake manifold, around the rats nest. I am going to have to rip it apart to replace the charge control solenoid anyway. I guess I can look then.
What a bummer though, finally after 3 months so close to getting my car going again.

what the hell?
Alright, now I had the battery charging for an hour or so. I decided to go try it one more time. I turned the key one prior to starting and the frickin' radiator fans turned on! Then I turned it to the starting position and it clicked for a few seconds then the entire electrical system shut off. I had to disconnect the negative terminal and reconnect it to get going again. This is pretty frustrating.

Pinching a ground wire will not smoke the system, you may have pinched a hot wire . Do not try untill you find the problem . You could start a fire or fry the harness beyond repair. good skill to you

check all your connections..True a ground would not smoke just trying to beat the ponit home about a pinched wire. Check that you have the starter motor wires bolted down tight. But please DON"T try it again until you look under and see if you have any bare or pinched wires , Maybe one of the 3 ACV plugs that have to tuck down below it and the LIM. Also maybe when you bolted the rats nest down to the engine block you may have pinched the harness. Or maybe the coil rack has pinched something........See the pattern? Have fun. It should be pretty clear if the wires are fried. You should be able to smell the burnt wiring!
