No ill effects . Remove the purge valve , the small tank under the throttle body(black plastic ) and the canister in the rear. With a stock ECU leave the purge valve hooked up if it will give a code if disconnected .The power FC does not care . Remove rubber hoses as needed and plug the nipples as needed . This will clean things up with no power gain. Leave the metal tubing from the front to the back in place. It will make an extra fuel line if needed for big injectors .

I believe that it absorbs the evaporating fuel and releases it when it gets a chance to the engine.

So removing it will allow us to breath in more vapors? Will it be noticable?

It goes inside the cabin, and you know it when you get dizzy.

The fumes go in to the air not in the cabin. How can they be piped in to the cabin. When the car is running there are no vapors, only a small amount when you shut down .

I'd be happy if someone could post how to replace the charcoal canister. Mine is letting fuel fumes out (it's 11 years old afterall)...

I believe it's the little black double A battery shaped unit attached to the lower bolts that hold the intake manifold elbow to the throttle body. If this is correct you can replace it by unbolting the intake elbow and removing the lines from the canister. You could conceivably replace it by removing only the lower bolts, but you will probably want to take the intake manifold elbow completely off to give yourself room to work

[throttle body]=[intake elbow]=[charcoal canister]==[10mm nuts].

Hmmm, I thought the charcoal canister was located near the back of the car above the rear subframe??

I agree.

I'm not positive of it's location on the FD, but typically those canisters are located in the back of the car (under the rear bumper skin?).

The ones I've seen off of Mustangs are about the size of two coffee cans stacked one upon the other.

My friend just confirmed that it's in the back of the car. I was thinking of the "catch tank" which is connected to the Charcoal canister. Sorry for the confusion.
