Exclamation Changing the spark plugs

Does anyone know when you change the spark plugs and remove the manifolds the gaskets are reusable or do I have to replace them?

you dont have to remove anything to change the spark plugs. Just go in from the side, you should have them changed out in about 15 mins.

Underneath the featured car (top/right), click on the word "search" and use the key word "spark plug" and then tell it to search in 3rd gen section.

I beleive (guess)the regular coppers can last 5-15k mi and the platinums can last 15-25k mi. They can be changed from underneath the car and no gaskets need to be removed.

Make sure you connect the wires correctly. They are labled T1, T2, L1, L1.
You should be fine using Trailing 9.5 spark plugs all around.
personally its a pain getting to the spark plugs. It might be easier for you if your remove your throttle body.

You can do the spark plugs from underneath very easily. Jack up the front, driver's side part of the car. Slide under with a 21 mm deep well socket (may need an extension) and have at it. Takes about 15-20 minutes.

I replace mine every 10,000 miles.

it should not be that hard to remove them with out taking off the uim, I personnaly did it about 30-40 times in about 3 days (tried to unflood my unflooded engine, long story hehe)

just grab a sparkplug wrench and go at it.

BTW: if the gaskets are not ripped, your fine (just reuse them)!

OK he is not changing the wires there is absolutely no reason he would have to remove the throttle body. Shouldn't have to remove the UIM. WTF is that? Just change one plug at a time from underneath that way you won't croos any of the wires. Also make sure you use some anti-sieze on the plug threads. It also helps to put some dielectric grease on the plug too.

Also, there are two plugs per rotor, with one above the other.

Trailing = Top
Leading = Lower

Well apparently I decided to change the wires as well and hell! That was such a tedious job! Had to remove the manifold, throttle body, and all these hoses just to get this one wire in~! Sheesh~ such a pain in the *** to get this thing done~ Oh yea and the gaskets weren't reusable since they broke while taking the throttle body off. ^_~

You didn't remove the UIM to change the wires, did you? Because you don't have to... just the throttle body.

Dood, next time, read how to do it before you start breaking things.

If you have anything other than dainty little hands with skinny fingers, do it from underneath. Easy. Takes 10 minutes. Just make SURE you use jack stands - right?

Actualy the wires are quicker than that - once you have the throttle body elbow off. I have a friend that can change them with the throttle body elbow ON, but he's about 5'4" tall and could probably crawl inside the engine bay with the hood down.

I need a mini-me!

I don't see how it is possible, no matter how small your hands are, to change the wires without removing the TB, elbow, and oil filler tube. The filler tube is completely in the way of sliding one of the wires off. That's my experience, anyway.

I was actually changing the plugs and the wires, the wires were a pain in the *** to change though, ended having to buy a new gasket for the throttle body.

Well i'm new to rotaries, but I just changed my spark plugs in 5 minutes. I reached down from the top. I don't have A/C or Powersteering though, is that what made the difference? Wasn't hard.
