pm saltydog12, he did his recently. I think he just lifted the engine a little to get some room to work but said it would have been easier just to pull it.

Yes, but probably easier to just pull the engine.

When the dealer did mine just before the warranty went out they just dropped the subframe while changing the pan gasket and engine mounts.

I actually did mine without dropping the subframe. It is a majar PITA but can be done. For me I had to raise the engine as far as possible, drop the pan on the subframe, unbolt the oil pickup, this is the key part, rotate the pan 180 degrees and jimmy it out thru the hole in the subframe. To re-assemble, slip pan back in, 180 degrees out, rotate, slip in gasket, re-attach oil pickup, and then the fun part, spreading silicone with your fingers around the mating surfaces. It can be done, you don't have to remove the engine and you don't have to get a new alignment.

Regards,
Frank

CA 45 min its impossible

there are many ways it can be done for me i just did mine jan 8 2009 i jacked the car up and put stands on . you can put them anywhere just not on the sub frame took of the 2 engine mount nuts and raised the engine till the tranny hit the top tunnel , took all 17 10" bolts and 6 engine mount bolts.then take of the oil pump pipe if you will after that i tried everything and could'nt get it out to save a life turned it around 180 360 but nothing , so the i loosened the two bolts on the sub frame, they are the only 2 bolts the other 4 are nuts total of 6 mounting points for the sub frame, I DID NOT TAKE THE SUB FRAME OFF after i loosened the 2 bolts a friend pried the frame from the body just enough for the pan to slip out easily i put a minimal amount of silicone on the pan so that the gasket sticks on . you dont want to put silicone on both sides it just raises the chances of it being unbalanced and the car still having a leak , that would just suck big time anyways i pried it to fit it easily and put everything back together with out having to take sub frame of or the engine for that matter people have different ways this is what worked for me and i hope it can be helpful to some one

I was under the impression that nobody uses the gasket anymore. Something about it is part of the problem that causes the leak in the first place.

I have a REAL shitty oil pan leak right now
