normally, they clean the part and coat it. you need to polish it yourself or have someone polish it if you want that done. its a separate step.

Think the coating still comes out smooth usally. Guess it depends on the coating and who does it.

Ceramic coated cast parts don't come out that smooth, more like an orange peel finish.

What part are you looking to have coated?

I have parts that are Cerama-Chrome and some that are standard high temp ceramic coating:

As you can see:

the Cerma-Chrome isn't exactly smooth.

They coat the part with a thin layer of ceramic.....it will show whatever texture or imperfections are already there. Something like the UIM will look as if it has orange peel because it had orange peel before the coating was applied. If you want it perfectly smooth it would need to be polished first.

My coater can give the UIM a few passes to smooth it down a bit before coating, on most of the other pieces it's not worth it IMO.

With any powder coating and ceramic coating the end result is determined by the texture of the part it is being applied too. Usually the parts are sand/bead blasted then coated, However, they do make textured powder coat but I am unsure about textured ceramic coating as I have not looked into it.

If you want the smooth look you do not need to fully polish it, just enough to create a smooth surface, probably go up to about a 400-800 grit and you would get the smooth texture you are after.
