What color is the smoke? Does the smoke have a coolant smell?

Well, it could be one of many problems. First thing is to check the smell of the smoke. That will help narrow some things down.

I have the same problem but after I start driving it, it stops the white smoke. I smell coolant and just waiting for that time to come, funny thing is that I've been waiting for over 20,000 miles. I swear on it.

just go heat up some coolant in a stove then smell that, then go smell your exhaust pipe and see if it's the same smell.

I get some whitish smoke, but it's just condensation as I can see water droplets. And my smoke smells more like gas haha upon startup..i run a rich idle.

Yeah man, I love the smell of exhaust fumes in the morning oh yeah, wooo!

Mine runs rich, smells sweet and smokes when I first start it but I do not have any cooling problems though.

About $130. However, if you don't install it yourself, labor will run you about $600:

I get some dark smoke (very fuel smelling) at cold start. Just a small plume and that's it. I didn't see it before I started using Mystery Magic Oil as a premix (4ozs per fillup, putting in 12 gallons or so).

The first time I saw it my neighbor caught me behind the car smelling it since the garage was open...

not necessarily. the car will smoke a little on start up most of the time anyway, due to the rotary's use of oil injection. mine smokes, a little, but is due to the burning off of excess oil. It does NOT mean that you have a bad turbo, and that you are puking oil into your intercooler. trust me. i just did an IC swap, and there wasn't a drop in the IC anywhere.....go figure....

Seriously, I have a DP, MP, and Cat so I think I should only expect a little smoke when nothing is cleaning that stuff up.....As long as it doesnt reek of coolant, your fine.....

Cool

Sorry fellas/ladies,

...but any sign of smoke coming from your car at any time is a bad sign.

...if you want to see if the problem is internal, check your spark plugs and see if they are wet. if they are, your water/coolant seals are going out, eventually loosing your motor.

...if your spark plugs are dry (either white(lean), brown(perfect), or black(rich)) your problem will be in your turbos, oil lines are leaking internally, causing your turbos to go out, squeeks, etc.

make it a routine to check under your car for any oil leaks.

anyways, just my 2cents. good luck

see ya,

car 53

I had the same sort of problem, it ended up being oil collecting in the bottom of my rotor housing

Well any smoke isn't bad really, most cars do smoke at start up for a little while, due to the old oil being scraped by the wipers and burned with the fuel.

We just rebuild one engine and it smokes at start up, just a small bit of oil and of course black smoke during hard runs, looks like spy hunter, then again the PFC is set to a really really really rich setting..heh.
