Car Runs Like Crap after Exhaust and Clutch Mod
Hi all,
To run through quickly. My original clutch died so i got it replaced with a HKS Twinplate. At the same time i got me mechanic to put in DP and Apexi Catback. I was hoping to get the midpipe custom made but since he had a s/hand unit lying around i picked it up for cheap. After getting the car it runs like crap. There is no pull available. Before this i'd feel the G's when i WOT. Anyways will be put my car up on a lift and looking at the work my mechanic has done and try to troubleshoot.
What are the possible areas i should look at?
My wife has been sitting in the backseat for a couple of days and she reckons that the rear seats heat up so much that it burns. The midpipe is smack under the rear seats, so could this be a clogged MP? Feedback much appreciated!! TIA
Regards,
Dave

Midpipe means that it's a pipe with no catalytic element that replaces the catalytic converter. It should not get hotter than anything else, but a midpipe cannot clog. I'm guessing you had a cat installed, not a midpipe.
So maybe you had a high-flow catalytic converter installed - that could in fact clog. Also the stock downpipe is prone to clogging too. Either one clogging can cause boost problems and lost power, and in the case of severe clogging, maybe extremely high temps there.
What mods do you have? Do you have a boost gauge to give readings on your boost?
How long ago was the other cat installed? I suggest you go back and have them remove and inspect it (for free, of course). It's important to know that just any catalytic converter will often break down and clog in the hot exhaust flow of an FD. Although you didn't provide much information, this is maybe the answer. In any case, you should either use a stock cat or a rotary specific high flow cat only.

Thanks mate. My bad. Well i run 3' exhaust with highflow cat. Well today i changed out the plugs (8's and 9's) and the car seems a little better. Will take your advise and check the car out again. I am getting perfect boost pattern but just seems sluggish. Thanks again.
