Car popping on deceleration

I came to a stop light and what I decelerated....I heard a popping from the exhaust. Now it seems to be that everytime I come to a stop it pops a bit.....what the hell is that all about. Someone know....I need some help here.

typical

I think this is pretty typical. Especially if a downpipe is installed. With my mods (I still have a main cat), it does that a lot.

Mine does it too. Doesn't cause me any trouble, so I don't sweat it.

It just means you're running a little rich on your fuel mixture. When you're in a higher RPM and then suddenly deaccelerate you're igniting some of the remaining fumes from the fuel which causes the back fire. If you get rid of your cats and do this you'll be able to shoot fireballs out of your exhaust tip. So basically, it's normal and nothing to be worried about.

That's what I do now...it just seemed to be a little more frequent than usual lately.

mine started giving out frequent little pops recently too,..

but I changed my intake from a pettit to ARC and changed my one piece dp/mp to a two piece stainless dp/mp. I think the stainless my be a bit larger in diameter though, maybe by a 1/4"

who knows, I kind of like the poping

My exhaust pops @ part throttle or WOT. It pops, when I blip the throttle. I dunno. I guess this is normal behavior. It's been dyno-tuned. Car has many mods with straight-through 3-inch OD piping and RB dual tip.

My AFRs are between 10.9 and 11.1 @ WOT, redline, 4th gear--basically stock AFRs.

hell maybe i am running right, i wouldnt know. i dont have a wideband or a PFC. i am running basically an intake, dp, highflo cat, and catback. that is it. i guess i just assumed that backfiring meant it was running rich. i guess i am probably talking out of my ***.

yeah i noticed that on mine too, i have a pretty big driveway and i just moved it from one side to the next and as i was bumping the throttle while moving (i have a 5spd so you know what im talking about) it was giving a little pop every like 3 hits i do on the throttle.. my dad was like, damn, i think something is wrong lol..

i have 3 inch exhaust (trust), not sure if i still have the pre-cat or a dp...

i have to go under the car this weekend and check..

I've always noticed this when something in the exhaust system is loose or has a hole. I think it may be related to fresh air entering the system. If you have an increase in exhaust smells, you might want to check the exhaust.

Its backfiring... like mentioned before its because of a overly rich decel. I can tune my car to do it or not... (vaccum loads at high rpms) Technically it can hurt you if you get a backfire bad enough, but im talking REALLY bad. That and backfiring will eat a cat.. I wouldent worry too much about it tho, pretty normal for our cars with mods.

True. The airpump does this. The idea is to add oxygen to unburnt fuel. The fuel ignites (creating the pop) and reduces hydrocarbon emissions. The pop is more noticeable with a aftermarket exhaust setup.

Check your spark plug too.
I recently change my plugs, and the popping goes away...

So is there a way to "tune" with a PFC/Datalogit/WB to eliminate backfires whiel running a DP/MP/Catback? Or do I just have to live with it?
