Well car is still missing and my insurance agent says it is up to the adjuster if they will cover all my aftermarket stuff. I have and can get receipts for everything on my car but still not sure.

Friggin scared that i might get screwed but it's not like I can't prove i had all the stuff on my car either.

Sorry to hear it
Unfortunatly what usually happens with a lot of really well known cars that are stolen in the US is they get shipped off to the Middle East or Asia and are never seen again. hope yours wasn't one of them.

Always be polite to your adjuster (don't kiss *** of course, but don't see it as a confrontation). Keep in mind that you do not have to settle for what the adjuster initially offers. He's going to offer you a low amount, but don't be discouraged. Its his job to offer you a low amount - after all, its the end goal of the insurance company to make money. You would be surprised at how many people lay down on the first offer.

Have all your receipts neatly arranged, and bring pics from shows/etc. Since your car was in TFAF, bring this up and any proof cooraborating this. Explain and show all the work that YOU put in - the personal time (and blood, hehe). Got pics of you working on your car? (My friends and I have pics of us in the middle of the winter (bundled up like mummys) under a car, repainting the underside for a show). Show that this is much more then simple transportation.

List all your mods with a dollar value, with matching receipts on paper, and add it to the book value. Hopefully, this is what you (realistically)hope to get out of the claim. This total is not what you probably get, but will be your starting point.

My insurance claim for my totaled Civic went something like this:

Meet with insurance adjuster at insurance office. Adjuster had just finished with someone on what seemed to be a claim, and they were definitely not getting along (it got pretty loud, hehe).

Adjuster states he has done research on my car by looking at final sale prices of my car at used car dealerships, and came up with and average of $12000 (98 EX coupe, 60K miles). I politely tell him that I have done work to my car, and provide him my list and total ($17K).

He says that when I bought my insurance, I did not buy extra insurance so that it is not covered. He also mentions that not everyone would like a 'modified' car, and so therefor could even decrease the value. (They are going to come up with all sorts of reasons to why your car is not worth as much as you think. Don't be discouraged or offended - its all part of the game)

I politely ask him to review the work done and the reciepts, and we agree to continue by phone later. He calls two days later and apologizes for the low amount previously, saying that upon further research and review, he can offer me $16000 before deductible. I take it, hehe.

Don't know, maybe I got lucky and met the right adjuster at the right time - but it worked out for me. Anyways, best of luck.

My insurance carrier specifically asked me about any additional modifications such as wheels, tires, accessories. I did not add coverage for extra items. Someone mentioned earlier you don't actually have to claim anything when you sign up for the insurance, because they have to cover it anyway. I don't believe this. If I told them I don't have aftermarket wheels, I don't see any legal reason for them to pay me if they are stolen. Can somebody tell me (us) how this stuff works.

Sorry about your car. I bought my yellow one from a gentleman who worked in the building that overlooks that street, perhaps he missed it :-)

If you have a FD and you live in Cali or NJ you NEED This !
I think I may get one, too bad you didn't have something like this on your car. Three alarms should have done it, if someone wants something bad enough they will steal it anyway.
